Shedding and being underweight can sometimes be a symptom of poor nutrition but Authority is not typically one of the foods that I personally call "bad".
It could be that he is simply not being fed enough. Check the bag and see what the manufacturers recommend and then split that up into two feedings a day. This is important for the bigger dogs so that they don't develp something called GDV (gastric dilitation volvulus) which literally means that their stomach flips over in their abdomen because of the weight of too much food.
As for the shedding, make sure that you brush him daily. Even though he is a short haired breed, they still lose hair and it needs to be kept out of the hair coat to keep it healthy. A good moisturizing shampoo, such as one with colloidal oatmeal, would be good to help get the dead skin and hair out too.
The last option I have is just that he is going through a 'teenager' phase. Sometimes as dogs are growing they get kind of skinny and gawky just because of growth spurts just like human kids do.
If none of this helps, I would wonder if there isn't something going on in his gut that is causing him not to absorb the nutrients from the food well. A vet trip might be in order...
Good luck and hope this helps!

If you pit is going from the puppy to adult stage, he is going to be skinny for a bit. Also, the shedding could be normal, going from summer coat to winter coat. (My pit is shedding like crazy right now). If you've never owned a pit before, sometimes you dont know what to expect.

But

If you arent a new owner and this is abnormal, then I have a few suggestions. Make sure you're feeding him a food appropraite for his weight. You shouldnt be feeding him small breed foos when he's likely 70 lbs. Make sure his food doesnt have a lot fo fillers (i'm not familiar with authority, I dont know if it does or not) Also, I leave food out all day for my pit. I fill his bowl when its epmty, and if food has been sitting overnight, I toss it and get him fresh stuff in the morning. My pit has never had a weight problem, and most dogs wont. Most dogs will eat til they've had enough, but not overeat. Try leaving food out, maybe hes so excited that you just got home from work that he doesnt want to eat then.

When my pit gets dry skin I feed him sweet potatos. I cut about half a potato into bite size pieces and feed it to him seperate from his food. He loves it, and its good for the skin.

If this problem has been happening for more than a week, though, you should have him checked by a vet. He could have a more serious problem that needs treatment.

I think you may have a case of worms and a need for more food.

My dogs have dry food available all the time. Once they learned that food was going to be there, they stopped eating as much as they could when I first started feeding them that way. I only have one fat-so but he is a laid back lazy dog any way.

The lose of hair is one of the first things that indicate worms, so is extreme thinness. You can deworm him yourself by either pill or liquid.Your local Pet Store will have what you need and read labels and follow directions.

I was looking at the previus question, DO NOT give raw eggs, they can be harmful. Feed fried eggs or even scrambled, mixed with cooked potatoes. If you have a costco, their kirkland brand is great, just look at the ingredients, they're all natural, high in protien, yet half the cost. They also have different formulas. Check it out.

Most pit bull owners start off feeding them small children then work up to adults. How would you like to get fed kibble once a day? You'd be skinney too. You should have done your homework before you got the dog. Pit bulls have a super bad reputation for chewing up people, even though I'm sure yours is different, ha. I think you should just stick with the playstation for your violence needs.

When I was trying to fatten up my rescue I made him breakfast and dinner along with his dog food. I would make him some gravy out of beef or chicken bouillon cubes and add bread, and some kind of meat, like canned chicken.
