Yule is another name for the Winter Solstice. It's the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, and it's celebrated as a turning point when the days become long again. It's usually on the 21st or 22 of December.

Yule is the original pagan festival of the winter solstice.

It is celebrated on December 21 - 22.
One of the common practices is to light a fire and burn a yule log "to call the sun back", to help it on the lowest point of it's journey. Using of greenery that remains green throughout the winter (pine tree, holly, ivy) has also the symbolic of rebirth.
