There are people who work full time 5 day a week jobs and still qualify for some benefits. After you educate yourself you will learn compassion for those less fortunate than you.
Try the Lewisham council housing allowance calculator for starters. Try typing in your own wages and outgoings and be prepared for, a possible, surprise.

If you have kids it costs you more for daycare than you earn working for McDonalds, and it takes your parental influence away from your kids. Also, if you work for a place like McDs you don't have health care, which is essential. Then we make women go to work, they have to work many many hours, they leave their kids alone and get arrested for child neglect.

agree with you up to a point as I personally believe there should be some sort of work required in order for the recipients to receive help whenever possible. this way they are keeping their pride

I got myself out of the benefit trap as soon as i could. It's not a way of living it's a stop gap!!!

Not everyone who is unemployed want to be.Why should they work at McDonalds when there highly skilled.
