Or was Baby Jesus visited by six men (not counting the Sheperds?) altogether?

The problem is the Gospels do not agree on this point.
The Three Magi (Persian Zoroastrian Priests to be precise) are mentioned in Matthew. Matthew however skips over the birth of Jesus and concentrates on the before and after.

Oddly enough the same term in the original text to describe these three 'Magi" appears twice more and is purposely mis-translated.
Acts 13 it is used to condemn "Elymas the Sorceror" (Magi) and again in Acts 8 not translated at all when referring to "Simon Magus".

The Three Kings passage is actually a 'Prophecy' that needed to be fulfilled in order to sanctify Jesus by the Torah. Isaiah 60 needed to be fulfilled otherwise Jesus was just another "cute Jewish kid".

The "three wise men" were actually astrologers. Modern Christmas stories depict these men as being helpful and good. While they did bring Jesus presents, they were actually being used by the Devil to try and kill Jesus.

I would strongly encourage you to read Matthew chapter 2 in your Bible. It shows that everything I just said is true. Jesus was almost killed because of those astrologers and their deal with King Herod.

Instead of totally listening to your pastor/minister or Y!A's answers, why don't you check out and read the Bible yourself. Interpret it yourself.

It was three wise men, but you do know that they weren't there when Jesus was born.

Actually, the Bible doesn't say how many there were. Those men were also astrologers certainly not kings, so magi might be a better term.
