it means "dont wait" . if someone were to want you to do something and you dont want to do it you would say "dont hold your breath" if you think im going to get that done. in other words dont wait for me to do that. hope that cleared things up a bit

It means don't expect it. Like, if you see someone you like, and tell someone you want to go out with them, they may say, "Don't hold your breath," which means "don't get your hopes up" or "don't expect it to happen." Hope this helps. :)

Hi. "Don't hold your breath" means its not going to happen...basically.
If you were to hold your breath for as long as you were to wait for it to "happen", you would die. so don't hold your breath!
