Normally, someone else throws the party for you. But if you're doing it yourself since they won't, do something that you'll enjoy since it is your birthday. Mine is 7 days after Christmas. Usually one of my siblings (I have 6), my mom, or a close friend will arrange for all of us to meet for dinner. This is the least that we do. It is a busy time of year and cash seems to disappear right after 12/25.

UPDATE: I just found out tonight that my fiance is planning something... I'll be 40! I asked him if he'd be my stripper! He said no. Shucks!!!!!

At home or somewhere local: Spa Party, Wine Tasting Party or
a trip with your closest friends or They could throw You a party
PS When I turned 30 I had a 30's theme party. Everyone had a lot of fun.
