A high protein diet, i have a pitbull and she eats a lot of meat by products from pedigree and i feed her Eukanuba. It's just pure healthy food without to much extra ingredients that will make the dog look solid not fat. Also, how many times a day are you feeding him?

To build muscle, add protein to his diet, just as you would for a human body builder. I would caution you to monitor his behavior very closely though. There is a link in aggressive behavior and excess protein intake in both animals, and humans. Once you add the protein, you have to make him work out. Take him for long walks/jog (cardio), teach him to pull (weight lifting), or get a spring pole (also weight lifting). These will help his body actually use the protein you are feeding it. Top increase general body mass, you could add a fat supplement, oil, or gravy to his regular feed. If you are thinking of changing feeds, I would pick the highest quality feed you can afford. It will have the most usable proteins, carbs, fats, etc, so he is actually getting the nutrition out of his food. Best of luck...

Gradually change his food to a brand that has Venison as the main meat source, like Nature's Recipe or Dick Van Pattens dog food, but add a few heaping tablespoons of cottage cheese and a few of pumpkin pie filling,plain-not spiced, to his food. Feed him twice a day, same amount of dog food with these additives. Get some 3V Skin Caps from your Vet for his skin and coat. Has Omega 3, Vit A, D and E.
That should help his coat and his weight.
Sometimes, instead of cottage cheese you can add Dan Active plain yogurt.

Does he have a normal appetite or is it just that he doesnt want to eat. There is a child supplement called incremin which is a multi vit and appetite increaser for fussy children, it is safe for dogs according to my vet. Compare the lables of the different foods your thinking of giving him and give him the one that contains more protien and carbos. As for the shedding give him a tin of sardines in natural oil with his normal feed twice a week.

Fried eggs and potatoes. The eggs are very high in protien, and the potatoes are high in starch, making a perfect combo for bodu mass. Combine this mixture into his dinner everyday.
I guarantee you'll see results.
