Our new family room has a red brick wall with a fireplace, hardwood floors and sliding doors that allow a lot of sun. What color paint should we go with? We want to buy a sectional sofa. What color should we get?

We're into the remodelling thing too. I just had all our fitted carpeting ripped out and we have laid huge Italian Flagstone tiles in a marbelled brick color alternating like a checkerboard with the same tile only in a marbelled grey/yellowy-beige. In the living room we have used Burgundy carpeting and leatherwork furnishing with contrasting yellowy-beige cushions. Burgundy and Brick colors together? You'd be surprised. The curtains we are putting up are in a very pretty pale sage green and have area rugs with tan, beige and mid-green themes. I was trying to get the feel of the rustic Italian setting, and standing in that big room with the morning sun streaming in through the windows, I swear I can almost hear the theme music from "Goodfellas" playing in the background LOL The dark lush green of the Rubber, and other house plants makes wonderful finishing accents.

Golden yellow would really emphasize the sun and give it a California feel to it. You can go with a light cream sofa, or light banana or light beige. Warm colors. That would really bring out the beauty of your room. :-)

Well, beige (taupe), ivory, different shades of brown, peach or terra-cotta. Maybe even certain shades of blue. Go to a paint store and look at the little cards they have. Sounds like your room is very nice.

Any color will go with the brick -- it's one of them universal things. Pick your favorite color and go with it. Your the one that has to live with it.
