My son just turned one in October. We just bought him the new Fisher Price Sing & Go Choo Choo and it is perfect for him! Our daughter is almost 3 and she enjoys playing with it too. You can get so many animals to go in the cars behind and it keeps the kids entertained while I do dishes! I usually pull it out when it is time for me to do the kitchen cleaning and then when I am done I put it away. That way they do not get bored with it and when I take it out they think it is something special. The link to see it is:

just copy and paste!
You can adjust the volume too!

I went through the same thing when my youngest turned 1. I found that buying toys that he could play with then, and as he grew were the best buy!! Fisher Price Little People are great!! The dump truck is great for the younger kids.

The ages for those toys are 1-5 so he can play with it now if he wants, and will enjoy it later! It's better than buying baby toys that he'll grow out of soon. Especially if you have other kids in that range, I would reccommend it!

For the one year old, doesn't matter. Make sure you have a box for him to play with after the presents are opened.

For the 5yo and 3 1/2 yo, books books books, books on tape, books books books

Blocks, legos, Lincoln Logs, Thomas the Tank engine (with the wood tracks--so fun); carrying case for all the little Hot Wheels you probably have.

Happy Holidays

I had an Elmo party for my daughter's first birthday which is not particularly memorable but the bright colors worked well. However, I asked all of her guest to bring a note, letter, and anything else they wanted to and placed it in a time capsule to be opened on her 18th birthday. I think it will be very special to open it and see what was written to her when she was one. I wrote something as did her grandparents but my husband who is not comfortable writing taped himself talking to her. Every year since, she is three, I add a few items and the cards from each birthday to make it a memory box as well. Hope this helps!
