Typically it's a good idea to send the save the date cards to out-of-town guests 3-4 months in advance so that they have the opportunity to make arrangements at work, plenty of time to book inexpensive airfare, etc.

Regular invitations to in-town guests can be mailed 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding.

Since we are having the wedding that is at least an 8 hours drive from family/friends, we are sending out the invitations as soon as we reserve the event hall, which should be in January (our wedding date is June 21, 2008). So we send out our invites first, in February.

When we get responses of Yes back, we will send out Save The Date magnets along with more detailed information on how to get to the ceremony/reception.

So with that said, we are going to send ours out one year before our wedding. That is in order to remind them of the date by having a handy magnet on the fridge, and so they can save up for a hotel reservation and the drive/flight.

(yeah ours is different, usually people send out save the date magnets before the invites, but we feel this will help save on costs)

About a month and a half or 2 months before you send your wedding invitations because this gives the person invited time to arrange their schedule to attend your wedding if they wish to do so. Send your wedding invitations about 4 to 6 weeks before the wedding that way it again gives them the time to make arrangements to attend you wedding if they haven't yet.

Yes, it is way too early to send them out over a year in advance. The earliest I would send them out would be 6 months prior to the wedding -- or, if you want them slightly earlier -- thenright after the new year 2013. Sending them out now would be futile. No one it going to put the magnet on their fridge for a whole year. Sorry, but it's true.

Between 4-12 months, depending on the situation.

They also should really only be sent if your wedding is over a holiday weekend or the majority of your invitee list will be from out of town.

Also, once you send one, you CANNOT un-invite/remove the person from the invitee list later. So be sure you only send these after your invitee list is truly finalized.

I would say as soon as you have the date and location locked in. Then it gives those that have to travel enough time to plan accordingly.

A great inexpensive way to go is to do free postcards or magnets at vista print. There is a posted coupon on this wedding site to get them free.

If you are marrying over a holiday weekend, like Memorial Day, then you really should send them 12-16 weeks in advance...if not, then 8-10 weeks is sufficient.

As soon as you like. It is not an actual invitation of course, as you know. You are just telling people to keep that date free in case it might clash with something else - then they can make the choice which event they want to attend. It is helpful for them to know.

I sent mine out 10 months before my wedding because I was getting married out of state and had alot of guests that would have to plan in advance for airfare and hotel.
