yes prophet Muhammed pbuh was illiterate
he used to meditate in a cave called "ghar heraa" and one day God sent an angel "gabriel" to that cave to teach prophet Muhammed pbuh the Quran, he used to memorize it and tell it to his family and wives, and thats the main reason he married more than one woman, as God ordered him to marry certain women as they were to memorize Quran and Sunnah and teach it to people even after Muhammed pbuh death. later on Muhammed pbuh 's family members and Sahaba (first men who joined Islam) taught Quran to the rest of the people and wrote it, it spreaded so fast.
this is just an abstract, i dont wanna add too much details.

The Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) by the angel Gibrail. The Prophet (pbuh) would remember these revelations and spread it to the people who were close to Him at the time (family & friends). They would also remember the chapeters that were revealed but in fear of forgetting it they wrote it down on what ever they could find stones, tree's etc. Once they wrote them down the Prophet (pbuh) checked them.
Throughtout the Prophets life 114 chapters, one by one were revealed to him. The Prophet remembered all of these in His heart. The Muslims at that time would keep writing them on the stones, trees and what ever they could find and they were checked. Once all 114 chapters were revealed then each written down chapter was gathered together and put in order.
I conclude to say human wrote the Quran but the poet is Allah. They are the words of Allah and the Muslims at that time wrote them down so that others may learn and get guidance. So thats why we have Qurans today, their are printed with the specilised machinary but that doesnt mean the machine also wrote the book.
Also Arabia was chosen because if you look at the map of the world Arabia is cituated right in the centre of the world

Qura'an is the words of God, God revealed it to Muhammad in different ways of revelations. Those words (Qura'an) were memorized by him and many other muslims who joined him. Many scholars wrote the Qur'an, and it was written with several different languages (all arabic but different in accent to the extent that it may be counted as diferent languages) until came the era of Khalifat Osman Ibn Affan who ordered to keep only one language (the one that is now available all ove the world) by writing it down and collecting it in one piece now called "Moshaf".
However, I don't think Muhammad died illiterate.

no mohamed didnt write it by himself,, but yes he use to sit in a cave and think about nature and who created it... and once an angel called GIBREIL came to him with the words of god.. in the form of "ayat"...sentences... and he memorized them...
and dictated them to his writers he had several writers... they use to write on animal skins and other natural things..( bec is was illitreat)
but the arabic words were written with no dots at that time which later on these dots were added and after 150 years (am not sure about the number of years) the quran was collected into a book...and there was only 1 book in exictence... wich later was copied into several books when the islamic nation grew to contain many countries...

Muhammad (pbuh) was illiterate but he memorized the verses as they were coming to Him. After his close and literate friends wrote it, Quran (the book) didn't fall from the sky as some may think.

here are my evidences that he did not write the Quran:
1) Muhammad can't read or write, no way he could read the Bible or the Torah, and no way he could come up with this Quran in this unique language.
2) God words collected in a book called Quran, Muhammad words collected in a book called Hadith. if you comapre the Quran with Hadith you will find alot of differences, it's absolutly different identity.
3) what's more truth than worshiping the one universal God, he is not two and he is not three. believe in the day of judgement, believe in all prophets included Jesus, do your charity, fast, laws, rules..etc. .

When Muhammad deliver God's messages verbally to the people, the ones who heard the messages and wanted to record the messages wrote the messages in any writing medium they could find.
These records were later on compiled into one after Muhammad's death.

Muhammad did not recite it and actually never saw a copy of it. It was not put together in its present written form until nearly one hundred and fifty years after Muhammad's death.
Utter bollocks imo.

our prophet MOHAMMAD was illiterate, he didn't know how to read and write, and it is the proof that MOHAMMAD the prophet didn't write QURAN, QURAN is from GOD, AND IT IS WORDS OF ALLAH "GOD" and which collected in a book called QURAN.
PROPHET MOHAMMED'S words collected in another book which is Hadith.
