What do you think? I have my eye on this very special girl, and I also have my eye on a couple of very special Tiffany rings. I think I can save 30% or more if I bought the rings off of eBay rather than buying from Tiffany's new (in the alternative, I can get a 30% bigger, better ring for the same $5-6,000 I want to spend). Any ring I'd buy would be in good condition, with all the paperwork, and the cool Tiffany box. But I'm sure that, if you'd look closely, you could see that it's not brand spanking new. Do you think this is an okay thing to do? My sweetie is not overly impressed with ring size, but she most definitely deserves something nice.

it depends on the girl. Im a bit superstitious about that, so I would never want an engagement ring from a failed marriage, but other girls might not care. If you want to find out how she feels without directly asking (i.e. if you want the engagement to be a surprise, then you should tell her a guy you know bought a ring from ebay and that his girl was a little upset, being a girl, Im sure she will give you her 2 cents about the situation.)

Also consider!, if she is the type of girl who cares about getting the Tiffany's box, she is also probably the kind of girl who wouldnt want a second hand ring.

Are you sure she is the kind of girl who LOVES Tiffany's? Not all girls do, some like myself think its a rip off.
-I personally wouldnt want a ring from a store where you are paying for the name, which doesnt even appear on the ring...I would rather have more money go towards better quality and bigger diamonds! If you dont know how she feels about name brand jewelry include it in the above hypo to find out!

As much as I love Ebay, and as much as I love getting a deal. I don't think buying a ring of that price range on Ebay is a good idea.

Yes, Paypal and Ebay have fraud protection in place, but you really don't want to go through the hassle. Unless they allow you to pick it up, then that is different.

I wouldn't have problem with a second hand ring. But I would be worried about something going wrong and having a romantic guesture turn into a nightmare. Because after you have already spent the money it takes them a while to get it back. WHich could cause you to have to push back the proposal date and other crazy things.

SO even if you choose to go second hand think about the whole Ebay thing a little more carefully. Better safe than sorry.

Second Hand Tiffany Engagement Rings

If your funds are limited then second hand is not a bad option. If you can afford something new then I'd go for the new one, but then again the cost shouldnt matter the only thing thats important is being happy together. Also if there is some way for you to ask her how she feels about the issue (like you have this friend with that problem or maybe you read a question on here from some guy, and you just wondered what she thinks) just to see how she feels about second hand rings.

I wouldn't care where he got it from or if it was used or even a real diamond...as long as he wants to spend his life with me.
Some girls are kinda particular about those kinds of things so maybe ask some of her friends or family if you feel comfortable with that. If she doesn't love it no matter what -just because it is from you- then reconsider your proposal. I bet she won't even ask if you got it off e-bay.
My only reservation about buying something that important off e-bay is you can't see it before you buy it. If you do get it off e-bay and pay that much for be sure to take it to a local jeweler and make sure you got your money's worth.
Also, I would care if it is a blood diamond. I would rather not wear any diamond at all than a rock I know contributed to the deaths of 1000s of people. Wearing something on my hand like that everyday would drive me insane. You can be sure your diamond is certified "conflict free" and it will come with a certificate ensuring it.
Congrats on your engagement!

It really depends on the woman. A woman worth marrying will accept whatever ring you give her, but out of respect it should be a real diamond (only losers buy cubic-zirconia engagement rings) and it shouldn't be a tiny bargain-basement diamond unless that's all you can afford. I'm not comfortable with the idea of buying a ring off eBay, but if you are I'd recommend taking the ring to your local mom-and-pop jeweler to have the ring cleaned and inspected before giving it to your girl. As long as it's a real diamond and you have the paperwork for it, you should be fine.

NO do not give her a secondhand engagement ring. You can save money some other time. The engagement ring is a symbol of your new life together and I'm sure any girl, if they are totally honest, wants a ring on her finger that is her's and her's alone. Never worn by anyone else. Even tho it might not bother your girl now, believe me down the road she will wonder why she didn't deserve a special ring picked out just for her. BUY A NEW RING

There was a 20/20 show on last night about this. They said that Tiffany & Co. is filing a lawsuit against ebay because 80% of the jewlary on there that is advertized as Tiffany's is not Tiffanys. Its a huge rip off. Do not do that. Just go to a local shop and pick out the ring in person. Make sure that you check the diamond out with a fine tooth comb before you buy it. Educate yourself on diamonds before you walk in there. A smaller diamond but better quaility will sparkle a hell of a lot more! Good luck!
You can get a really good ring for that amount of money. Check out Cost Co also. They have awsome deals on diamonds.

While I have been in the engagement ring section at Tiffany many times to admire how beautiful they are... I just don't think it's worth it if you're going to buy it off of eBay. First of all, I would be nervous about buying a diamond ring off of eBay, but that's just me. Secondly, Tiffany is nice, but their gold is just gold, and their diamonds are just diamonds- they all come from the same place. With Tiffany the bulk of the price is for the name. $5,000- $6,000 can buy a gorgeous ring somewhere else that would be twice as nice as a ring that you could buy from Tiffany for $5000. Try looking somewhere like The Shane Co. They are a very reputable company with gorgeous rings- you could definitely get a great ring there for the amount you want to spend- much better than a second hand ring from Tiffany. For most women, it's not about where the ring came from it's about the QUALITY! Good luck!
