Why not just leave them alone since it the Buddhists that have it over the Christians. You should take a lesson from them, and learn about real love and peace.

Buddha was born 500 years before Jesus.

The teaching that Jesus presented to the Jews was very mush different from ancient Hebrew Law of the time and more like the teachings of Buddha.

Makes you wonder if Jesus wasn't influenced Buddha. There was a lot of contact through the silk road.

Words of Buddha:
If anyone should strike you with his hand, with a stick or a knife, abandon any desires and utter no evil words.
Majjhima Nakiaya 21:6

500 YEARS LATER...

Words of Jesus:
If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also.
Luke 6:29

I agree with a_delphic's answer, and I'd also like to make another point about it...

If you are going to try anyway, it's important that you tell your friend what it means to you. then, it's important to present it in a way that you don't have any expectations about how you want your gift to be received. I once had a Buddhist monk friend tell me that "you don't have to take what people give you". She told me while smiling.

Your friend might appreciate your good intentions even if he does not accept your gift. If that's the case, it's your responsibility, as a friend, to accept him anyway (even if you think him foolish).

As a Buddhist and former Christian, I must tell you, there is no way to present Jesus as a mode of 'salvation' because to a Buddhist the concept of 'salvation' is simplistic.

Why would you like to do that? How would you feel if he presented you with the gift of salvation of Buddha?

Like most religions, the difference is between if your own works can get you into heaven. Most people like to think their works are enough. Most people think people are basically "good". Christianity says we aren't capable of being "good" enough since everyone commits "sins". Since God is perfect, how can an imperfect person be in heaven? Only if God "perfects" that person, through the atonement of Jesus Christ, can anyone be "good enough" to get to heaven. 99% isn't good enough. The requirement is 100%.

What is the best way to present the gift of logic and enlightenment to you?

How about worrying about your own life and leaving him alone?

Do you see him sitting at YOUR doorstep trying to convert you?

NO, and why do you ask?

Because he has more dignity and respect for your faith than you do for him and his beliefs. It is the Buddhist way to not cause you harm spiritually, emotionally, or physically.

What's the best way to share the wisdom of Buddha with a christian? That would be much better!

2006-12-16 11:50:20 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 3 1

You don't. As a christian you need to learn and understand that not everyone believes in the same way that you do. You need to be tolerant and not push the christian faith and Jesus Christ on others that believe in their own Gods. Please don't be another one of those christains that believes our God is the only God and is intolerant of others beliefs and customs.
