every christian church is an offshoot of the catholic church.
to stop from fighting with each other, they all agree that 'at least the catholics are wrong'. w/o this, no one would've went along with the protestant reformation.
as for non-christians, it could be that its a big target
edit-
athesit kid- they never changed the bible since it was created, the protestants changed the bible.
mother communicate- many people also believe America is the harlot, and iraq is the great bablyon(it is actually located where babylon was) whats your point?
as for the 'pray to statues' thing,-umm, no we dont. if you're trying to pray to jesus, and you see a picture of jesus, it helps you pray. its an aid, nothing more; and the bible says it ok to have visual aids while praying.
the catholic church isnt anti-gay either- they say its ok to be attracted to other ppl of the same gender as long as you dont have sex with them.
thats more resonable than the ' all gays go to hell' and 'God hates fags' standpoints of other churches.

Other christians attack the Catholic church now to defend themselves. When people hear every other day about some little boy being sexually abused by their catholic pastor, the other christian denominations are trying to prove that they dont condone that, they dont allow that to go on in their church. They are scared of losing believers beacuse of the corruption of other churches, and want to remind their parishoners that they are different, pure. Basically, they are sacrificing Catholicism to "save Christianity".
Non christians attack the catholic church because for the past thousand years, catholocism has represented the most secular, militant stronghold of christianity. They look at the catholic church and have a thousand years of mistakes to rub in their faces (the spanish inquisition, the crusades, the corruption of the italian popes etc.) . Its very easy to find things about the church to enrage people, even if it was done 500 years ago.
It may not be morally right, but its true.
hope this helps

Catholics marry non-Catholics all the time. You'll have to start by getting dispensation, but it's so normal now, that won't be a big deal. Because Catholics consider Holy Matrimony to be a Sacrament and most non-Catholics don't, you'll probably have to do all your premarital prep in the Catholic Church, but you'll probably want to because there is more spiritual and practical preparation, since marriage is a permanent thing for us. When you marry, you'll either have a full Mass or just the wedding rite. Most mixed couples opt for the rite only since the non-Catholic can't receive Holy Communion. You will have to promise to raise your kids Catholic. Your boyfriend won't - the Church doesn't expect non-Catholics to know how to raise Catholic kids. However, he will have to promise to let you raise the kids Catholic, and he'll have to promise to never interfere with your practice of the Catholic faith. That will mean he can't try to coax you into skipping mass or using birth control or turning off his IV if he's on life support to hurry his death along.

I'm not Catholic, but confessing to Priests, believing in pergatory, praying to Mary and Saints is not in the Bible. Also the Popes have a bloody history of killings with the Crusades. Catholic churches at one time were full of statues and people prayed to them. Also the Pope is the richest man in the world and cannot stay out of politics. The Pope is not infallible. He is a mere man.
There are Christian Catholics just like there are Christian Protestants. Ever since the Catholic church started reading the Bible their churches have done away with the statues.
Also many Prophecy teachers believe the Vatican is the Great Babylon and Mother of all Harlots. The Bible in Revelation quotes a city on seven hills. This Bible prophecy fits Vatican City.
For years the Bible was withheld from all people by the Catholic church. The Pope let the people know what he wanted them to know about the Bible. Catholic traditions were a lie and a means to control people by listening to confessions and profit from pergatory preaching. Mary is the mother of Jesus, but no where in the Bible has she been given authority. Read the KJV Bible for yourself. Church every Sunday cannot teach you enough of the Bible.
Please do not think I'm attacking anyone. I'm only explaining what I know and what the word of God says.

First of all...its a hugh target! The church is made up of sinners (as is the entire human race) and those who so choose do zero in on the human failings to validate their attacks. Much of what is said comes from a total lack of understanding and misinterpretation that has been perpetuated through the centuries. Then many within the church, fail to live up to the faith in all aspects of their lives. We are each called to live according to the teachings of Jesus and to let His light shine through us to all the world. This can be said for all other denominations as well. Religion cannot be just a one hour a week thing. It is a way of life that we all must learn to live. Of course, in our humanity, we fall into sin, but we must immediately get up, seek forgiveness, and get back on track. Our faith must come from our hearts, not our heads and we must live it as Jesus taught us. Pray for those who insult and persecute you and pray with heartfelt love as Jesus would have us do.

Because the Catholic Church is the largest Christian denomination. Because people criticize what they don't understand. Because religion is an easy target for the weak and ignorant. Because they are afraid of success. Because their upbringing won't allow them to do anything else. And the beat goes on...

Down through history, the Catholic Church has been almost unbelievably corrupt, hypocritical, and power hungry. Not that many of the younger so-called-Christian sects are not trying to follow that same path-- but the Catholic church had the power to decide and dictate what the 'truth' was-- what the Bible could say-- who would 'go to heaven' and who would 'burn in hell'. And they had the wealth to kill their opponents.
As individuals, there have been and are evil and saintly people in all religions. But as an organization, the catholic church, due to its historical power, has probably been the most guilty of perverting and subverting Jesus Christ's message. If there is a devil, he has been well-served by many in the power structure of this church.

It's the only true Christian Church. That's why other Christians try to knock it. A Muslim condemns it because of the crusades, but the biggest killers during the crusades where Muslims (you either became one or you were killed). Atheist condemn it because they accused them of burning people for which craft, in fact it was the Calvinists.

Because to non-Christians the Catholic church just confirms what we've been saying about religion all along - that most organized religion is a form of control, and is filled with nuts. (Confirmed by the fact that it is anti-gay and then the priests have molested young boys.)

It is not right to attack catholics ....many are quite sincere.
However, the religious institution called Catholicism calls itself Christian ....yet many of their beliefs are not christian.
Many of their practices are spoken against in the Bible itself.
They make themselves a target.
