On our road I am seeing increasing ammount of new steel railroad ties. Some of the wooden creosote ties are still being used, but more and more I see the steel ties shoved in and locked down using these coiled steel fasteners. Is this the general trend?

Dog: Interesting. I am in Central Texas . Ties are either steel or wood but we see more bundles of steel ties at random places along the tracks. More are being used as replacements and whole pre fab switch tracks with low profile swithes are made up of these steel ties as well.
