My dad has a one and a half year old basset hound whom he got at a shelter about 6 months ago. He has had occassional problems pooping inside, but nothing horrible. He told me this morning that Homer had wet his bed. He was laying on his blanket asleep while the family watched a movie. My dad got up to let him out after the movie finished, and he was laying in a puddle of urine.

Does he need to go to the vet? Does this sound psychological or physical?

Thanks!

I would take him to the vet. It could be a bladder infection or something else. The vet can figure out if it something major and prescribe the appropriate meds for the dog. It could also be incontinence (sp?) and there are meds to help control that as well. Good Luck

Take him to a vet. Uncontrolled urination, especially as the dog seemed to be unaware of it, can be a sign of an infection of the muscles controlling the bladder, not the bladder itself. A friend of mine had an alsatian that had the same prob and the poor girl had to be on meds to control the amount of urine produced. It is definately physical not psycological, because the dog was asleep when it happened, not awake and unable to control it. If he has any change in behaviour i.e off his food, lethargic, take him to a vet, it could be serious.

Could be neurological. Best to have a urinalysis done to rule out an infection and have the vet exam him thoroughly for neurological problems. Call first thing Monday morning, I wouldn't want to wait on this, just in case. If your vet is open today, get there today.

I'd get him checked by the Vet. I had a GSD that did that and it ended up being related to her bladder. Not saying that is the case with Homer, but better safe than sorry.,

I would recommend a trip to the vet for an exam, dogs generally do not wet their beds for no reason. Good Luck.

More than likely a physical problem...urinary tract infection (uti) would be my guess. Definitely needs to be vet checked!

i would defiantly say psychological, i may be wrong so taking him to the vet wouldn't be that bad of an idea. some dogs get frustrated, nervous, maybe even sad and that can cause odd behavior, he sounds too young to be having blatter issues
