I didn't get any numbing stuff at all for mine . . . and it honestly didn't even hurt! Just a weird "push" when he put the needle in . . . I have other body piercings and those hurt when I got them done, but the tongue piercing didn't hurt at all, and my friends who've had it done say the same thing . . . just make sure you go to a reputable piercing shop with an experienced piercer, they'll do it so quick that it'll be done before you even realize it!!

Any piercings 'hurt' although all pain is objective. But some places dont use 'numbing stuff' and due to the inability to hold any liquid/creams on your tongue for any amount of pain they will use a freezing spray which is just like putting a ice cube on your tongue so think of it as pain in that regard. If you are getting your tongue pierced thou i would make sure your piercer is fully qualified to do it or it can end in death. This is due to having usually atleast 2 large veins running down your tongue and if one of these were to be pierced you could bleed to death. Walk out if the piercer says straight away yes i can do it without looking at your tongue. But also be aware that your tongue will most like swell to about double the size and eating and drinking will be difficult/painful for about a week. Also the other aspect is your mouth is one of the most dirtiest places on the human body due to obvious reasons which means you must take every precaution to look after your piercing because of infection. But hey good luck if this is what you try and do.

I never got the numbing, but it doesn't hurt without, it kind of feels like a pinch. I know the stuff the use in more less Orajel. Its not that bad quick and easy, it will be more sore about 2 or 3 days later.... Don't worry about the actual piercing...Good Luck!

I didn't have any sort of numbing chemicals when I had mine done and honestly have to say that out of all of my piercings, my tongue hurt the least. It hurts less than getting a flu shot.
Keep in mind that even though the piercing itself isn't painful, the healing time afterwards was MISERABLE!!
But that was just me.
