What a great essay to write! Pick an animal that is very sensitive to nature. If you don't have to pick a mammal, pick a frog. Look up the major deformities that frogs get because they are so sensitive to pollution and changes in their environment. They breath through their skin, and this is what causes them to be so sensitive. It is easy to find examples online, in biology journals, and biology magazines. Good luck!!

To give yourself an insight ino the world of an animal, find out s much as possible about how this animal lives and spends its time, then write the story of a day in the life of that animal. You could include things that are now difficult for the animal to do, (finding water or shade for example) and have the animal either remembering how things used to be, or what its parents have told it it used to be like, before man ruined the environment or the clmate changed due to pollution. You could then point out what happened to change things and what could be done to change it back again. Do this from the point of view of an animal who just cannot understand why we have done what we have to cause so much damage and you will have a very interesting essay, I think.

You should definitely humanize the protagonist as much as possible. Personify the animal, not as an animal, but as a coherent and sensory being, fearful of its future and existance. One reason the world disregards the well-being of animals, is it is hard for us to relate in any specific or tangible way. Tell the story from a desperate perspective, and elaborate on the animal kingdom's desire to co-habitate this earth symbiotically with humans.
