ask a psychiatrist, they're the only ones who can decide whether you qualify for antidepressants.

I'd strongly reccommend seeing either your doctor and/or a psychiatrist. Remember, a psychiatrist, not psychologist b/c psychiatrist can prescribe anti-depressants which psychologists can't do. Doing some therepy could help alot. Also, IF YOU GET ANY THOUGHT OF SUICIDE, CALL 911 IMMEDIATLY and/or alert a family member or a friend immediatly. Being suicidal is an extremely critical condition which is needing of medical attention urgently. Also, remember that an anti-depressent isn't a happy pill. You don't just take it and boom, you're happy. And, if you go to either your doctor or a psychiatrist, they'll probably want to do an evaluation first. Hope this helps. Email or chat w/ me if you have any more questions.

There is a good chance that a chemical imbalance is the reason for your depression. Are there any major factors in your life that are causing you to be depressed? If you find that you are always feeling run down and tired and events in your life are worsened by your inability to handle it, rather than the other way around, it really could be as simple as a shortage of serotonin being made in your brain. The first thing to do is go see a doctor. If you feel that the doctor you see isn't helping you enough, keep looking until you find someone on your "wavelength". Good luck.

Really important that you talk to someone about your depression. Sometimes there is a cause (i.e. health condition, living situation, etc) that could be fixed that is affecting how you feel. If you can fix that without medication you will be better off for it. However, sometimes that isn't possible or doesn't work at that time you would want to discuss it with a doctor. There are always side effects with any drug and there are so many different kinds that you need to make sure you get one that is right for you. Hope you are feeling better soon!

depressed for 3 years? maybe you should go to a health care specialist (i.e. psychiatrist/ psychologist)and seek help. they are the most qualified people to diagnose your condition. if you need to undergo antidepressant therapy is upto the specialist, because depression can be taken care of by different types of therapy (i.e. psychotherapy, psychopharmacologically). BTW you cannot get antidepressants over the counter. You need doctor's prescription first

I was on Paxil for 10 years, I wish I'd never heard of antidepressants. They are finding more and more long term effects of antidepressants on the body. Please, exhaust every other alternative before going the medication route. Check out www.antidepressantsfacts.com
Pharmaceutical companies are making a bundle of money.

There are many factors to consider. How bad is the depression? Is it depressive personality or bipolar? How old are you? (If you are a teenager or young twenty-something I would suggest therapy only). You should see a doctor at the very least.

Heck No!! Do not get on any drugs!! If your 3 years into your depression, you need to wake up and deal with whatever it is that is bothering you, and to take action against it!
Become independent once again like you once where in your younger years, and you will be once again happy and joyful!
