This can be very dangerous. Although, it is okay to clean out some humidifiers (check your manufacture's instructions) with bleach, you would want to make sure that it is rinsed out well. You never want to ingest the stuff!! Think of how you are feeling when cleaning a bathroom without good air flow. You intensify that with it in the humidifier.

It is much better to just clean your home regularly and also clean out your humidifier water daily and change the filters regularly.

NO, no, NO.. you NEVER want to do this. :-) I know how you feel, I'm a germ-o-phobe. But there are safer things.. I like the lysol spray for the air, or you can try Clorox disinfecting wipes for surfaces. You can wash your humidifier with antibacterial soap/water.. NEVER inhale bleach like that. It's very toxic & not even good to get on your hands...

So clean out the humidifier & relax.. if you know you have a clean house there's nothing to worry about... those natural germs in the air won't kill you but the bleach will do you no good!!

Good luck!

Putting chlorine bleach in the humidifier will likely result in chlorine fumes in sufficient level to be dangerous. Chlorine is toxic. There are other anti-bacterial products available that are made specifically for adding to your humidifier without poisoning you in the process. Check at any store that sells humidifiers. Then you may have a happier life!

Bleach has chlorine. The humidifier will turn it into chlorine gas. The gas will kill you. Now, you're not dumb anymore. Want to clean the air, get an air purifier. See how smart you are now?
