there are a few answers to your question. firstly tatts hurt some people and not others. different places on your body are more sensitive than others. the lower back being one of these places. size and design also needs to be taken in to consideration. the larger and more detail the longer you will be there. anyway to some up it basically depends on the individual. if you do not tolerate pain very well go for a simple small tatt or you will just need to focus during it. it only lasts for a while and once the needle stops nothing is felt. no pain no gain! i enjoy getting my tatts, i feel relxed and totally enjoy the experience. hope this helps and good luck with the tatt. make sure you do your research and get a good tatt artist. merry christmas.

Well,it really depends on the person as everyone has a different pain threshold.
I know many people who have their lower back tattooed.
Some of them say they didn't feel a thing and it was fine, others said that it was immensely painful and other said they felt nauseous and faint as it was near the spine.
Basically it's as if they are all contradicting each other, when really it's because they all have different strengths.
If it's something you want to get done go ahead,if it does hurt you it will only be for about a day,and the pain is generally bearable.
Good Luck..

I have a tattoo on my lower back and it didn't hurt to get it done. It feels more like scratching on the palm of your hand. Try doing that for a few mins and if you can stand that, then go for it. It does also depend on whether you want colour and how big the tattoo is. And if people start going on about 'tramp stamps' and 'imagine when you get old' ignore them. After all, you're getting it for you, not them. And it's you that has to live with it, not them!
Good luck!

All tattoos hurt, the only thing i would suggest is maybe re-think where your having it done as practically every female has one at the bottom of their back!!
And ignore everyone thats says 'ooo imagine what its going to look like when your old and wrinkly!' I think being old and wrinkly is worse than having a tattoo...and tattoos dont look too bad when your old actually! Next door neighbour has a few!!
the feeling is diificult to descirbe, its kind of a scratching feeling...its uncomfortable but not unbearable, and it will be over before you know it!
Go for it!

I don't think mine was that bad... It gets annoying after a while.. But you'll be alright. Everyone in the free world has a tattoo on their lower back.. :-)
There are more sensitive areas, I DONT recommend the ribs.. lol.. my rib tattoo took an hour less than my lower back tattoo & I almost cried..
Good luck! :-)

My Mom has lower back problems, but she insisted on getting a tattoo on her lower back. The only thing is that she said that it felt awesome. The problem is that she is one of the very rare people who can take that pain and think that it is like a massage. So every one is different, and you won't know until you go there and get it done.

They do hurt but then all tattoos do to a degree.
If you really want it then dont let the pain put you off because as soon as the needle leaves the skin it stops hurting.
The actual area over the spine isnt as sore as going onto your bum and up to your sides believe me so if you are not sure if you can handle it you could always get something you could add to later, just to test the water so to speak.
good luck.

any tattoo where the skin is thin or against the bone really hurts the nerve endings are very near the surface of the skin also in 10 years you might feel like a **** for getting one

OMG! No matter where you have a tattoo...its going to hurt! Its a needle scratching through your skin what do you expect. Some places hurt more than others, but everywhere is still painful! The most painful tattoo was the one on my foot but the one on my bsck wasnt far off.
