An old remedy my mom still uses is to warm some hydrogen peroxide and add a few about 10 drops to the ear, cover with a towel then put a heating pad on for no more than 10 minutes. Then of course lean the head over to let the peroxide drain out. A heating pad helps even without the peroxide.

My greatgrandfather smoked a pipe and would blow smoke in my ear and then put a ball of cotton in my ear. It worked better than any medicines and drops the doctor would give me. I worked with a young lady that had bad earache and a coworker blew cigarette smoke in her ear. The results were the same, gone next day.

An ear ache can entail a problem with the external canal which many times will resolve on its own, could be full of wax and need to be flushed gently with warm water or it may be serious and involve the inner ear and need to be treated with the correct antibiotic that is sensitive to the bacteria involved, if left untreated it could become serious, either way it is best to consult with your family Dr. or better yet an ear, nose and throat specialist.
