and massage parlour workers in Ipswich to keep them at home? According to paper thousands of pounds have been given to them so they don't have to work to buy their drugs and pay rent!!! What about people out of work or on long term sick? They don't get these handouts.

This is another argument for legalisation of brothels. Then big nanny state people could watch this part of the service sector, take taxes etc. It is up to charities' constitutions where they spend their money. If taxes and NI were paid via brothels then perhaps some people wouldn't feel so "anti". Drug rehab and homelessness cost the taxpayer millions anyway so charity money is just indirect taxation if it is channelled this way, but you can choose not to pay. Out of work people and long term sick do get "hand outs", as do asylum seekers, refugees, visiting aliens seeking free medical treatment etc etc. There's a lot needs sorting out if everything is to be "fair".

I think that if people are giving money to these ladies to stop them working on the streets at this particular time given the fact their is a murderer (serial Killer) on the loose and its true that people have a charity to help these girls then my faith is renewed in christians and do gooders all over the world . I feel very happy at this point because to do that (give money to prositutes) to keep them safe is the most charitable act I have heard for a long time. Yes it may seem weird and patronising but lets look at in a logical and compassionate manner. These girls are victims of the drug culture that is happening all over the world. A right thinking person would not choose a lifestyle of degraduation and violence but many of these girls simply fell into this detrimental business through DRUGS. They rely on selling the only thing of value to pay for drugs their bodies if they dont get money to pay for DRUGS they will get very sick with an addiction and beaten up by their pushers. They have very little choices in the type of employment they do and given that in the UK their are no legalised parlors its very unsafe for them to work on the streets. At the moment there is a crisis where the girls cant work because their is a cold blooded serial killer out there strangling women at an alarming rate.
In any other employment their would be insurances and procedures if it was an unsafe work place and if there were parlors or brothels the girls would be protected.
And because their isn't insurances and crisis procedures in place where work places are unsafe a group of kind hearted non judgemental people are trying to raise money to keep these girls off the streets because they see that the life of a prositute who is someones mother, sister, daughter and friend is worth saving. These people should be commended for their kindness.
As for handouts if you are out of work their should be government payments made available and if you are sick their should be some type of government payment and if your colleague was murdered in the course of their work (which occurs sometimes like in psych units or youth work) there would be insurance like work cover to help and if the work environment was unsafe there would be crisis money and insurances but these girls are getting nothing. So please dont begrudge these girls the money or heap ridicule on compassionate poeple attempting to do the right thing and help out at a time that is extremely difficult for all the people involved.
Instead of whinging maybe you could pray, pray for the 5 victims parents and children and other relatives and pray for the brave and dedicated police force trying to capture this nutter before he strikes again.

when you donate to a charity, you have a good idea of where your money is going and what it will be used for. My guess is this is a drug rehab charity helping these girls. And why not? It's not like taxes that we pay to fund wars we didn't want, or lottery tickets we buy that pay for the already wealthy to watch ballets at Sadlers Wells.
if you donate to a charity and you're against these unfortunate girls receiving some help then don't donate to that charity again. if you didn't donate in the first place then what are you getting upset about?

I don't think charity money should go to prostitutes but that the prostites should go the the charities already available there are facilities for drug addicts etc. I think prostition will always be an issue so it should be legalised and prostitutes should be made to pay tax on their income just lie everyone else who has to work. Brothels would be opened and it would be much safer for sex workers. I also think there should be more police on foot/pushbikes as well as in cars.

Charity, provision for the indigent or unemployed. Once, great good fortune has smiled upon the person who has asked the question he/she is unlikely ever to realise that there are other people in this world that happened to draw the short straw, nobody gives a **** about them, and they were born into this terrible miss-fortune.
Christmas is a time of goodwill to all men/women/children regardless of their social status within the community which has everything - except human compassion and charity and love within their cold hearts - until - 'their time comes' and their money has run out.
Would you not provide food for a hungry child? and you with plenty.
Happy Christmas.

Nope, have enough people with their hands out as it is. My son has epilepsy and isn't allowed to draw disability until he can get back on his feet. It's not right that after all the taxes we pay in this family that ours have to go to people who abuse the welfare & disabilty system. It's also not right that I'm forced to give money to convicts for their computers, etc...they should have to work for it. I'm sick of so many idiots thinking I owe them money!

The help they need is with their drug habits.
Who donated this "Charity money" and for what purpose?
If the donators all meant for it to be used in this way, then fair enough. If they didn't, I think it is wrong.
What happens then to the unfulfilled sexual drives of their punters? Who becomes the object of their desires and unwanted attentions? Hmmm? Hmmmm?

They should just make it legal. Then we will not have the problems because everyone will be safer and better off!! I do not see these women as charity cases though, so I do not understand how that suggestion was even made... and I agree the money should be used for people who really need it!!

I haven't really thought about it until i saw your question but i do actually think its a good idea. People very rarely 'CHOOSE' this sort of life but are forced into it and cant escape it. quite often its homeless people who get offered help by a NICE person who will invite them into their home. then get them addicted to drugs and make them pay for it by prostituting their selves. once this has taken hold its hard for them to get out and if they do manage to break free from these pimp they then sometimes go back for working for themselves as they cant get a job coz they ain't got a fixed home address, They cant get a fixed home add coz they cant get a job. Its a vicious cycle and they NEED OUR HELP to get out!! so yes i think they are a charitable case. Although i don't condone what they do
