can you still play videos on the camera or do you need the tapes to do that. Whats the difference between the card and the tapes?

Yes you can play videos from either the tape or SD card. The difference is that you can have a 60-90 min video on miniDV. SD does not have enough capacity to hold a 60 or 90 minutes video. You can use the miniDV tape for recording video and the SD card for pics.

The tape is for the video and the SD card is for digital photos. Unless your just shooting a very, very short clip for You Tube as an example, you wouldn't want to put video on an SD card. It has a small capacity compared to MiniDV tape.
