Steaming is healthiest, retains a lot more nutrients and a vibrant colour. However, there are numerous ways to cook veg.

Roasting, baking, braising, frying, etc. (it really depends on which veg, your question is not very specific. But there are a million and one recipes around have a look online)

Boiling is a popular and simple method. Veg should be boiled 'al dente', which is a fancy way of saying firm to the bite, not mushy. Thats how a decent chef will cook it. If youre boiling potatoes for example, you will know its cooked when you stab it with a knife, and held vertically, will slide off.

When working in the restaurant, I prefer to leave the skin on my carrots before i chop/dice/slice and boil them, but I give them a good clean. This is where the most flavour and nutrients are found, though, ironically the skin is usually peeled and disguarded. I sometimes drop a bit of orange juice in the water to add a little hint more flavour.

Always season your veg with salt and pepper, to your own personal preference.

Good Luck

I like them best sauteed. Use a pan w/ teflon coating, and put a little olive oil in it. Turn the heat on medium or medium low. Put a little garlic in the oil ( you can buy small jars of chopped garlic, no hassle.) Stir it up. Add your vegetables in order of which one takes the longest to cook (you have already chopped them up at this point.) Bell peppers take a while. the "juicier" the veggie, the less time it will take to cook. Once you've added all your veggies you can add different seasonings. Stir it to keep from sticking and burning. Cooking veggies just takes a little trial and error. I still get it wrong sometimes! Good luck!

The main thing is not to over cook them. 1. You can put them to boil for a while in boiling water, perhaps approx. 6 minutes or to your own taste.
2. Steam them, this keeps lots of the nutrients in the veg.
3. Stir fry them.
For 1. and 2. don't forget to make gravy from the water as the kitchen sink gets all the vitamins and minerals that we just throw away.

most vegetables need to be brought to the boil and then simmered for about 15 - 30 minutes. If in doubt, keep the heat low and keep checking. It is healthier and tastier to peel vegetables only if absolutely necessary. Carrots and potatoes may be scrubbed and cooked in their skins. What a difference! Cut potatoes into cubes of roughly the same size, dice carrots. Remember a little salt or seasoning before you start to cook!

stir fry is the easiest and tasty too, just season with garlic, onion or ginger and put in the vegetables, add salt and stir fry them, add lil water too so its not so dry! There are many other ways to cook vegetables, explore them with milk, cheese, egg, tomatoes, pepper, mushrooms, chillies and many more! enjoy!

Depends what type of vegetable you want to cook, but the simplest way for most veg is to put them in a pan of boiling water for a few minutes, or you could steam them if you have a steamer.

You can boil them - but make sure they remain firm, not soggy. Put a little oil and salt in the water.

You can fry them - this makes sure the crunch of the vegetable remains. Season them as you do this with pepper, spices etc.

You can grill them - this is good for peppers and parsnips especially

You can roast them - roasting different vegetables together, using oil and vegetable stock mingles all their flavours together.

what kind of veggies????

For corn on the cob, I boil it in water for about 20 minutes or wrap it in aluminum foil with butter and put it on the grill.

Broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, etc... I like to steam. I put on a large cooker of water and boil it. In a strainer, I put all my veggies and place it on top of the boiling water. You can steam them until they are as soft as you like them.

For potatoes, I wrap them in aluminum foil and bake them for about 1 hour at 400 degrees. I also slice them and bake them on a sheet for about 35 or 40 minutes. Depends on whether I want something like a fry or a baked potato.

the easiest way is to put them in a saucepan of simmering water and cook until desired texture.

Alternatively get a steamer - i can't cook - but my steamer cooks to perfection!
