I live in southern Virginia and the only establishment even remotely close to me that teaches Capoeira is in D.C. Maryland. I was thinking about teaching myself it by watching videos with the art in it over and over but I figured that most of the time that probaly doesn't work to well. Any words of advice?

Do not, do not learn martial arts from videos unless you already have a foundation in those arts. Down that way lies crappling and shriking. It's quite possibly the worse thing you could ever do to make yourself a worse fighter than you would be without it.

If you can't find another school out there, instead, go to the capoiera school. Sure, it won't teach you how to fight and doesn't have all the mystical stuff associated with it, but it will make you ridiculously flexible, strong and coordinated. All things you will need or want in any other martial art. It will give you a basis for the future if you so desire it to be.

It is very difficult to teach yourself any Martial Art by watching a video. You can often get the basics but miss the minor nuances that really make you a great Martial Artist. If you really do want to practice Capoeira you should go to that school, or find another one near you that you may have overlooked.

I suggest checking out all the martial arts schools in your area and join the best one.
The quality and frequency of your training will outweigh the style.
You need experienced people training you to really learn a martial art.
You can always watch the Cappy videos on the side.

Watching by video is okay to learn the Kata...many older practicioners learned by reading books...but, bear in mind, there is a huge difference between learning Kata and perfecting the practical forms of the style you are studying.

You really need to get a Sensei. The value of the teaching and correcting is far outweighed by any distance traveled.

Go to a class make contact you maybe surprised to learn that there are people waiting for enough enthusiastic new starts to appear before starting a new school. Okay a probable scenario but still possible, I was at uni and doing karate for three years before I found out that the uni had its own ryu, see what I mean get making contact. Good luck

watching a video or reading a book is only good for reference to people who're already studying the discipline.

if you do this, you might wind up with an injury. so I wouldn't do it If I were you.
