I know a guy who used to have very thick, shiny and straight hair but over the past 2-3 years, it's suddenly become curly, rough and dead. He's young and healthy so what could be wrong? Maybe some kind of vitamin deficiency?

Dry hair is the result of low secretion of natural oils.
Factors that trigger dry hair are over exposure to sun and wind, excessive blow-drying, inadequate intake of vitamin B.
To deal with this hair condition, increase your intake of low cholesterol, polyunsaturated oils such as margarine, sunflower oil, fruits and foods rich in Vitamin B.
A supplement of Vitamin E capsules will also help.
What to eat: Foods rich in vitamin B, raw vegetables, pulses, whole-wheat bread, brown rice, liver, bananas, nuts and oily fish.
What to avoid: Salt and fatty cheeses.

check out his thyroid, that happened to me. He could have an underactive thryoid - it will also make your nails kinda weak and various other things (sleep too much, weight gain). Sometimes people have ALL symptoms, or none.

Here are some of th esymptoms - if he think he might have this it's best to check it out immediately. All they do is give you a pill that replaces the hormone youre not making.

He could have a vitamin C or A deficiency too...
If the thyroid stuff is ruled out, he should try taking a hair and nails supplement - they usually help. Be careful though!

Goodluck!

I am a female but I have had this problem before. My parents are very old fashioned so they use old remedys. Tell your friend, that when they are washing their hair every couple of weeks mix a raw egg with their shampoo. This will not only add the protein that his hair needs but it will also make it shinier and bring back the beautiful hair that he once had. I do this once a month and my hair is very healthy and I have no split ends.

look at the ingredents on his shampoo bottle.....if it has Alcohol in it...
find a new shampoo!!! alcohol cause major dry hair!!!
& try usin a good conditioner!! leave it in from any where from 5-20mins....
when i take a shower the 1st thing i do is wash my hair soo when i put the conditioner in i kno itll have enuff time to soak in!!!
people often mistake the use for a conditioner as a de-tangler
[that is completely WRONG!!]
conditioner puts the moisture bak in your hair from blowdrying...straighting...or jus pollution from thru out the day... bad chemicals period!! you kno....

also try useing BIOSILK or any products of that sort...it can make you hair shinny & make ne frizz go away if u have any!! when first using it u might have to play with the amount that u use....but youll get it!!

Could be a change in his diet, could also be an over production of testosterone.
