The only way I have found to get any relief from the pain is to get a wash cloth and wet it with hot water and place it over your forehead and nose. Replace the cloth when it becomes cold.
Also try and long hot as you can stand it shower. Good luck and hope you feel better.

Regarding the salt and water remedy ... the best thing you can do for sinus problems is heat and water. By irrigating the sinus passages with a VERY LIGHT mix of salt and water you can help clear them out. DO NOT ADD A LOT OF SALT - just a small pinch to a glass, I used that treatment a number of years ago and I used too much salt and permanently damaged my nasal sinus passages. You can also use an over-the-counter product such as "Ocean" to spray the nasal passages, or even getting saline solution for contact lens users. Just use moderation. Reducing the moisture in your home can help if it is high. Most medicines for congestion don't completely address the sinus issue - it's a different kind of pain. Getting pain at the juncture of your eyes and nose and all the way down into your teeth can be helped by sinus medication from the pharmacy. You might also want to try homeopathic remedies which can offer more stable relief. I cropped info about one sinus remedy and listed it below. You can usually find remedies at a health food store, or Whole Foods or Wild Oats markets.

Drink lots of water, that's the first bit. Probably why Claritin bugs you so much actually. It dries you out quickly, and leaves you severely dehydrated. However, if you're looking for something that does work, without medications, then there are some excellent natural remedies available. Here's what I use, and there really are no measurements, be liberal: Onion soup Heaping amounts of garlic Additional onions Chili Powder Pepper And anything else that is spicy that you can think to put in it. When you go to eat it, you'll probably only want to do one cup at a time, but breathe in the fumes ( I mean, the steam) and drink it slow. It burns, you'll probably want a shower after words, and you'll definitely want to brush your teeth. But, it helps immensely with any sinus troubles you may be having. Clears 'em right out. I've used it for sinus infections myself, and it works extremely well.

Home remedy is not s substitue but supportive to the proper medication.
1. Daily morning and evening stretching exercises, like arm raisings, pull ups, push ups, trunk twisting, squats and yoga with proper breathing. You must not hold breathing during excercises.
2. Nose blowing alternating with one nostril at time to prevent accumuation of nasal secretions and proper drainage of sinuses.
3. Steam inhalation: boil the water in small vessel and add some astringent like amrutnajan or zandu balm or just a pinch of turmeric and inhale the steam covering your head with a blanket.
Even just plain water steam is also enough.
Do this twice daily.
3. Avoid all cold foods, frozen food.Eat every thing fresh and hot.
4. Drink one glass of lime water (luke warm) early morning.
5.No cool drinks or ice cream. Light coffe or tea can be taken twice or thrice a day.
6. Don't expose your self to cold weather.
Best of luck.

Hi Kiran MS, so you want to know home remedy for sinus
problem. Frankly, I have never heard home remedy for sinus problem. Even if there, it shud be temporary only. Last year, my wife had similar problem & doctor
had diagnosed it as acute sinusitis. Since you have got headach, pain in the cheek, etc., it seems that it has become serious. With these kinds of symptoms, my wife
had immediately visited ENT(eye, nose & throat doctor),
who initially had prescribed antiboitics with ulta high
doses of 1000mg, twice in a day. She had taken for few
weeks but the symptoms did not disappear and ultimately
she had underwent surgery. After surgery, it took my wife around six months for complete recovery. She had
stayed in a hospital for 7 days. After surgery, if one is
not careful, one needs to eat antiboitics for sometime. Patients having sinus problems with headache, pain in the cheek, etc. should immediately consult to some well-known, experienced and good ENT without delay. In this kind of problem, as per an ENT, infection can reach till ears, eyes and even brain. Therefore, in such cases, one should not delay consulting ENT. May God bless you
with an early recovery. Take care. Yong Kang.

Ocean spray. It is to be spayed in the nose.
Save the bottle and make your own fresh, as needed all it is salt water.
Make sure you clean the bottle every time, make it so it will last 3 to 4 days only. You should throw it away after 3rd day.
Also try B6 tablets (Vitamins) it will reduce the swelling. The pain is from swollen tissues.
If there is an infection it must be treated by anti-biotic, run to doctor. Doctor may give it in drop form.

My friend who's now in college for homeopathy said that when it comes down to anatomy and physiology, you can only clear your nasal passages by bending over. It's the ONLY way they drain. So get a bowl full of boiling hot water and put it on something low so that you can sit above it. Throw a towel over your head and sit there for as long as you can...up to an hour if you can stand it. Hope you feel better!

I know this sounds crazy - but it works! Snort a mixture of water and salt - this dries up the mucous in your nasal cavity.
