Aren't Quika boards still available from Parker Brothers?
If you want to make your own get a smooth peice of wood and paint the letters, 1-9, Yes and No on the board and turn a glass upside down to use as a planchette.
You could also put the letters, numbers, Yes and no on cards and spread them out on your coffee table and again use an upside down glass as the planchette.
No matter which of the three options you use; always set up sacred space before using it so you can have some control ober the type of spirits communicate with you through the board.
An easy way to set up sacred space is to cast a circle and say something like "NO EVIL OR NEGATIVITY MAY CROSS THIS BARRIER.."

Just take a piece of paper or cardboard, write on it with magic marker yes and no in the corners, the alphabet in the middle, and goodbye at the bottom. Then you can use like a plastic cup or a piece of paper as the cursor, that will be the hardest to make because you want something that will hold up to people putting theirs fingers on it and pushing it around.
In the old days before Milton Bradley they use to use what would be like Scrabble letters laid out in a circle so you had every letter of the alphabet, and a wine glass as the cursor. You would place the glass in the center of the circle and let it be pushed to the correct letter the spirits were trying to spell out.

Hhhhmmm I wouldn't recommend you make one, about ten years ago 6 girlfriends and I decided to be silly and make our own - 3 minutes into it, the glass went crazy, and very quickly spelt out the words F U C K Y O U, the light bulb above us exploded and a pain shot up through the arm and into the body of the girl who was speaking . . .it took two hours to calm her down, before her pain subsided....since then, we have never touch another ouija board. I don't think any of us were quite the same afterward, and now we all have new found respect for the dead.

You need a smooth surfaced board and have an oval or circle shape. have a "yes" and a "no" at opposite sides and have letters and numbers spread around the remaining area. Use only with extreme caution. Use a glass tumbler turned upside down. Say a brief prayer before and after use. Use in a well ventillated area in a positive environment.

First of all, I want you to know that dabbling in the spiritual realm is a very dangerous thing. If you seek to contact the dead, understand that it is impossible. The truth is, that if you contact anything using a ouija board, or any other form of witchcraft, it will be a demon, in a guise to deceive you. After all, Satan himself appears as an angel of light, yet in reality he is a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. If you seek answers, you should go to God, your Creator...He holds the ultimate authority and Jesus Christ is far more satisfying than the occult. I can tell you that I have dabbled somewhat in the occult and I know people who have done more, and the results of that are nothing but detrimental. Please consider yourself warned against this. For anything you have a problem with, God can help you....demons are just interested in hurting you and using you for their purposes, which include doing anything they can (even promising power) to keep you from an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.

I really do know how, it's pretty simple but I won't tell you.
They are an opening. An opening to Satan. I know that sounds silly. But it is true. You are inviting demons into you life. I mean it. I've seen it. You won't get dead uncle bob to talk to you, or Elvis, It WILL be a demon. Is that what you want?
Choose God if you have questions. bible says to not go to soothsayers(fortune tellers) or those who gaze at the stars ( astrologers) Or mediums. These are an abomination to God.
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God. The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so (Deut. 18:10-14).

For a really simple one, get some nice smooth wood, paint it appropriately, put a finish on it and sand it well. An upside-down juice glass wil function perfectly well as the planchette.

You could find a picture of one online and paint it onto wood or a hand carved one might sell for a small fortune on an online auction if it was done nicely. You've given me a great craft idea.

print the word " yes " and " no " at the top with some space between them. then below these words print the letters " a " through " m " with spaces between then. on the next line use the letters " n " through " z " directly underneath the first line. below the letters use the numbers " 1 " through " 0 " below these numbers print the word

I'm sure you're sincere, but I deeply hope you won't allow yourself to take a wrong path in life by getting involved with any kind of occult practice. Instead of bringing you close to God, it will only take you away from Him.
Why do I say this? The reason is because the Bible clearly says that occult practices of any kind do not come from God, but from spiritual powers that oppose Him. Instead, I urge you to turn to God and seek His will for your life. Only He knows our future, and only He can be trusted to lead us. God loves you, and He wants what is best for you—and the proof is that He gave His only Son, Jesus, to die for you on the cross.
Our greatest need is to be cleansed of our sins—only Christ can do that. By a simple prayer of faith invite Jesus to come into your life today—and He will. Then make it your goal to "pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart" (2 Timothy 2:22).
