I honestly haven't been blessed with the chance to try it. It's been many many years since I tried Pilsner Urquel and I didn't understand why everyone thought that was so wonderful. I did make myself a pilsner recently, and its pretty damn good. I little hoppier than I would have liked, but not bad at all. I think from now on, from about November to February, that will be my season for playing with Lagers. My basement stays nice and cold. Next year when its really cold, I'm going to have to make an Eisbock, but I digress. I personally feel there are a lot better Lagers out there than just the pilsner style. The main hype around Budweis and Budweiser is the national pride for the Czech folks, and the fact that Budweiser is one of the largest brands ever. You'd probably be really pissed off if someone kept mistaking your beer for Bud/Miller/Coors just because of a name similarity. I seriously doubt its the best beer ever, but I do believe it is better than A&B beers. I think a lot of people believe that as well, and then exaggerate about how much better it is. Personal hatred for macrobrews like A&B probably add to that exaggeration. Personally, if I want a good lager, I'll go for a bock, dopple bock, marzen, etc. If I want a thin light colored lawnmower beer, I'll spend my $6 on a 12 pack of PBR, and not a 6 pack of PilsUrquel. It did win best American Style Lager 2006 at the Great American Beer Fest. (note, if i really am craving a good pilsner, i'll just try out whatever the microbrews are offering, they do an amazing job as well)

Czech Budvar is to Good King Wenceslas as American Budweiser is to George W Bush! Nuff said!

The original recipe that the American Budweiser is based on is Pilsner Urquell, the Busch family copied that recipe. Czech Budvar has no relation to the American version and is definitely better. This is not too hard to accomplish.

Yes, it is far nicer than the American version, which tastes like water with some added piss.......!!
Budvar is a very nice beer indeed!
I heard that they are made by the same family, and that one brother emigrated to America and started Budweiser. Not sure how true this is though!!

Hmm, Czech Budvar, a quality tasty lager or Budweiser, brewed with rice, tastes like p*ss.

Water out of a fire bucket is better than British Budweiser. As the American stuff is brewed from rice (first ingredient on label), same as the British stuff, I have my doubts whether it really counts as beer. I have to say the Czech stuff doesn't do much for me either, but at least it is made from wholesome ingredients.

In the UK the "US Bud" is brewed under licence in London with hard water and tastes awful. The Czech stuff tastes like it has some chemicals in it. Same Same I say.
I suggest Becks
