people who would use that as their argument have nothing else to substantiate their position?

Doing that is a copout. It means the person has nothing to back up what they're saying.

Okay, I think that I understand what it is that you are asking. So here my answer goes.

There are some here that are very good at describing what the Bible says, and some are not.

The thing about a Christian, is that they have committed themselves to leaning on the bible as the writen source of truth. So if the question is about the Bible, the Christian has a source from which to draw an answer from.

Some are good at it and have it right, and some do not. Some will answer in a way that is actually not correct scriptural interpretation, and some will be better at appling scripture to the answer.

That's for you to interpret as to who's got it right.

Now as for the Bible as a source of information: you have alluded to noticing a split in the reliability of the Bible as a source. There are some that so not instanly take it as fact, and Christians that do.

So the words 'because the Bible says so,' have little weight to bear for many. The belief in a correct interpretation is really what determines how close to the truth you are personally.

So in general terms, what you are noticing is the spilt. And Jesus did divide people into more than one group;
1) Those that trust Him,
2) Those that don't.

Those that don't are:
1) Those that are not chosen by the Father
or,
2) Those that are chosen by the Father that have not yet responded to Him.

I try not to use the arguement, 'because the bible says so' because it's not going to have the weight that I typically want to have in the answer.

But rather I will give the reader the knowledge that I am offering the answer from a Christian perspective. That way they can decide for themselves what weight to put on the answer with only the prejudice that they themselves carry.

This response is extremely generalized, perhaps you will ask a question that is more specific and you will see what I mean.

Well that depends on the argument as well as, if the place where in the Bible this is spoken of, is shown, and yes I do believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and beneficial for teaching(2Timothy3:16) But since you feel that the Bible is not worthy of being believed, what other source for your argument do you have to substantiate your claim, that, of the Bible's unworthiness other than just your own say so?

Fact of the matter is this. Argument is based on correctly implementing factual evidence in order to win a debate with another person. While the bible cannot be proven wrong, there is absolutely nothing in it that can be proven factually correct, making it useless in a debate.

My dear little Easter bunny, The bible is Gods word and. it does not require any justification. The bible has stood the test of time. Someday when you are at the end of yourself call upon Jesus, he will answer you. None of us deserve for him to love us but He does. Don't forget to call upon Him if you ever get in trouble that there is no way out of.

If you are arguing with a bible believer it IS justification because a believer must accept a non rational religious reference in order to be able to function as a believer.

If you argue with a non believer however, that is like farting into the wind. You just make a stink but with no real substance to it.

That would depend on the authority the two parties give the Bible. A lot of people believe it to be more authoritative that the Law of the State. When I talk to people like you I first turn to science then after they have to admit that God is indeed real I take them to the Bible.. Want to take the trip, maybe you could show me the errors of my ways?.... Jim

I agree with you. Quoting from any book has to be the rreference when people who have the same faith argue. When I try to mae a point to non-muslims, I use the rationale behind the verse, rather than the verse itself. I do not expect non-muslims to agree with what is there in the Quran as I do. The starting point is not the same and we are not on the same grounds. Likewise, I prefer Christians to use rationale and logic rather than quotes from the Bible to explain things to me.

I once asked on here for people to explain how they know the Bible is true--*without* saying "Because it says it is" or "because God says so". I did have a lot of good answers, actually, but also a good number that were pretty much just mad at me and refused to give any answer but the ones I'd asked not to give.

So, sort of your question in reverse.

Only if that person would use every aspect of the bible to say how things should be.

There is a part in the bible that say a child should be put to death if they do not obey their parents.

Or a woman should be burned alive for being raped.

Do they agree with those things. or is it 'cause it was different in there time' kind of thing.

The truly sad thing is that people who say "because it is in the Bible" don't really know their religion like they should, and that is the only thing they can think of to support their argument. A lot of them only know the Bible passages that support their arguments, or passages they can twist to support them. Just remember, ignorance is bliss.
