exercise, gets your blood flowing, plus if you tone up and lose weight you feel gooooood, also a meditation program is good, be it yoga or some other type of quiet meditation...then there is the always good one, get up do something for someone less fortunate than yourself, if you think there are none, look in nursing homes, hospitals, young people with no limbs, no jobs, not a person in the world that cares for them....the more you give of yourself and your time, the less depressed you will find yourself, you wont have time for it!

I'm still battling it, but i'm getting better all the time. I can't tolerate the regular drugs they gave me and had to stop using them. So I started yoga, that helped a lot. Also, while I was at the gym for the yoga, I went on the exercise bike. I'm sooo out of shape that I could only do 5 minutes at first. But it gets better after a while. I also watch how I eat, asking myself if I'm really hungry or if this is just the depression-feeding-frenzy I'm giving into. You have to really concentrate on what you do, what and how you eat, and what people you surround yourself with. I broke off all contact with my family (they are the reason for my depression) and that makes me feel better, too. So, there is no "cure", just little (or big) adjustments you can make in your life. Good luck!

Studies show and I personally agree that lots of natural sunlight can directly benefit people with depression. While living in Alaska I often suffered from depression in the winter months when the days are short. After moving back to the lower 48 and spending more time outside the symptoms were gone. Now when I feel down i spend a day out and I'm always better.

When i was depressed recently, someone told me to "snap out of it" - didn't work.

Talking to someone can help - even a stranger.

TM Leaf and Joyce have some good suggestions - exercise. yoga, meditaion - all can help you feel physically better, as well as mentally.

I think of those worse off. I try to help somebody. It feels good. I forget about myself. It really works. You get a new light on things. God Bless.
