i dont want to turn on my firewall, i dont want to download an anti-virus, and i don't want to turn my automatic updates.. but i would like that red logo to stop being there whenever i turn on my pc.. what should i do.. without violating the one mentioned above.

the red x means that whatever icon it is on is not active or functioning at this time.In alot of cases,it appears on the lan ethernet connection.if this is your case,then you can go to the control pannel and select network connections,now seleect the one that says lan or high speed internet,right click on it and click disable.now the red x should be gone in a few seconds.If you use ethernet or high speed internet for your internet connection,then you probably have another program that needs to be disabled.
