Yes, and idiotic to boot. Trying to ban a religion, or anything from the religion, has never stopped a religions spread. It's like trying to hold onto air. The more its forbidden, the more people will gravitate toward it.

they didn't just ban the hijab, first of all
secondly, what religious significance does the hijab have anyways? none, the answer i've gotten from people is that they don't want women to be judged by their looks, which is a social answer, and a stupid one because i've seen muslim girls with hijabs and then they wear make-up and tight jeans, isn't that a total contradiction?
the hijab also stops people from assimilating into the culture of the country within which they are living, there should be a compromise, it's not like they're banning islam, the hijab doesn't even represent anything religious unlike the rleigious symbols of the cross or aum
what's the big deal?? how is that opression??????

If it were the US I would say it was illegal and wrong but each country has a right to govern themselves in the manner in which they see fit. We do not all have to agree with their rules, but if you live there then you have a responsibility to follow the laws of the land. If you do not like them and cannot abide by them the you probably should leave to find a place where you can live as you like. I do not mean to sound uncaring, it is just impractical to think everyone will allow the same freedoms I am allowed. And you have to look at why something is law. It is usually for a reason, whether you feel it is a valid reason or not I am sure there is one.

it is a security issue, who or what if the person face is hidden, the same thing with a full body tent, it is a security issue. Sigmund Freud is an idiot. The rest of the world has had to increase every aspect of their security because of suicide bombers and the effects of 9/11. SO YOU THINK BEFORE YOU QUESTION ABOUT WHO IN FACT STARTED THIS MESS. And if you are so worried of the women being viewed lustfully there are medications on the market that men can take so they can behave like gentlemen instead of animals. No shirt,no shoes, no face, no service.

Absolutely not. I'm not a fan of the French by any means, but your questions is soooooo bias. France banned ALL religious symbols, including crosses in an attempt to stop religious segregation. Whether it's the right move is a different story, but it's NOT oppression.

It's not a hijab ban. It's a restriction to wear any highly visible religious items in certain places and circumstances. For students and teachers in public schools, if you are employed as a civil servant in a position where you are dealing with the public etc...
It's not oppression, it's common sense.

i am seeing ignorant in some of the answers. they are mixing the word "hijab" with covering the face. Hijab means covering the Hair.
i am glad that USA has more freedom regarding this, at least in the USA they respect my faith. they have no idea how important hijab is to the muslim woman, it's part of her identity.

banning hijab in France is not an oppression as you claimed. In that country, they dont believe hijab and their government do not want it to be spread out in their country

I agree with you. People need to make the destinction between a religious symbol like a crucifix and a religious obligation like hijab.
