I had a big argument with them a few months ago. They live far away overseas and I now have no contact with them. I want to send a card for Christmas or an email, but I still hurt so much and whatever I write seems not right. I want things to go back to normal. I don't know what happened and why we argued. I had not seen them for over a year and we had been together for barely a few hours. I stil have lots of anger in me about what happened. I am sure they do too. I just want to say something really special and clever and unique and profound. Any ideas, please!

Apologize for your anger and ask forgiveness. Who is right and who is wrong is irrelevant. Make the first move to straighten things out. Express love and not resentment. Ask that they reestablish communication. Do not loose your temper again no matter what they say. Do not lecture them. Accept whatever response they give you and move on---DO NOT dwell in the past.

Say something special yes, but not anything clever, maybe that is why there are arguments.
Say what you have allready told us here, it sounds fine, and find a card that goes with what you have said., and send it with.
Just leave out the piece about the argument and replace 'they' and 'them' with you.Leave out the 'clever' bit.

Write what you wrote here. It's honest enough. Will they help you get through your anger? If so, that's probably what it is about them that you love. Remeber the love part. It will also help you to forgive them.
So forget about clever, you have managed to say something unique, but more importantly, GENUINE!
Tell them what you wrote, (I think that you are behaving desparate, which in this case IS WARRANTED! ) You love and do not want to continue in this way of anger, especially towards them. You are cool!

You need to forgive but by the sounds of it you won't forget or you are not ready to forget as anger is driving you on.
Just email and put a festive message in the email so that they know that it's meant for them and it's about the argument and that life is to short for arguing.

it shouldnt be clever and unique it should be straight from the heart, why dont you say i know things went wrong with us and i know a lot of the blame lies with me im really sorry and i miss our freindship, can we begin a new start in our friendship, and put the past behind us, build a new bridge,we both have matured sice then and i realize your friendship is really important to me im sorry,
if you write this you have humbled yourself and accepted responsibillity and showed that you are humble if you keep pushing the blame you will show you are being proud
hope this helps

How about " I want things to go back to normal. I don't know what happened and why we argued." I like that.
Just be honest. Go for it!
Merry Christmas to you and I hope you resolve whatever issue is eating you up inside.

it does not matter who said what, what does matter is that now both parties can say sorry forgive each other.
we all say hurt-full things when we are angry. even if you just send a card to say hello how are you, it will be an ice breaker, they may also be tearing them self's up. don't leave it to late you never know what will happen. and life is far to short.

Christmas is a time to put aside any quarrels
and think of the ones you love and care for,
Christmas is a time time to remember,
At this time may I wish you all the very best.
Now and forever
Lets make a new start
