They are only 1 miliwhat. They will dazel if shone into the eye but is the power too low to burn the retina. Also I notitice the beam speads out to about 10mm diameter at 15 feet so the beam is much wider than the iris of the eye which reduces the light in the eye as well. The fact that they are sold even to children seems to sugest they are safe

The problem is the narrowness of the beam.
It's low wattage, but concentrated on a small area.
You shouldn't take ANY risks with people's eyesight.

they are dangerous if used incorrectly, kids should not be allowed them to play with. At close range, less than 10 feet they can do permanent damage to the eyes

Try this test...place one 6 inches from your eye and stare at it for 30 mins. If you have to touch type after that...you are blind!
