Next day comes in again, 'pie and a pint please' barman says 'we have no pies today', so he says 'ok i will have a bag of crisps' He drinks the pint and puts the crisps on his head, as he is about to leave the barman says 'excuse me mate,i have to ask why have you put the crisps on your head'
The man replies 'cos you had no pies!!'

i imagine you've were given the comic tale somewhat incorrect. His associates were now operating international huge and that that they'd agreed that at a sequence time that they'd all take a seat and drink to at least one yet another.
