When applying for credit cards, the banks give you a choice of mastercard or visa. Whats the difference? Isnt it a credit card in the end? And both are accepted worldwide as well, hence whats the distinction for?

They are 2 different companies. Other than that they are very similiar.

Visa/Master/and Credit card are the same thing. Just different brands. You're debit card is just that. Linked to you bank account, and takes the money out of there. You can have them run it as credit but it still comes out of your account. You just don't have to enter your pin number and just sign. ATM card is the same thing, except you can only use it at the mac machine.

The only difference I have noted was that some online businesses only accept Visa.
