what if their own standards are different to that which is accepted what do i do ?

it helps them to maintain and grow their ability's for self care. use it or lose it. also preserves their dignity

The main philosophy in health care these days is more one of assisting and enabling rather than the old fashioned paternalistic approach where health care providers dictated how often patients washed, were medicated, opened their bowels, etc.

We now recognize that every person is an individual with attendant rights.

If you cannot manage to care for people under these conditions, you might request a different patient. If no patients live up to your high standards and you find that it is intolerable for you, you might consider changing jobs.

Put yourself in your clients shoes, would you prefer everything getting done for you or would you want to be allowed to help if you can
