I lift dumb bell weights for 30 mins to 1 hour almost everyday before i go to sleep, when and why would I consider drinking those muscle gaining drinks and why? Will those power drinks and bars really help out that much if i only lift weights and not do cardio. If i just want muscle mass.

first off, only lift maybe 3 days a week then 1-2 days of cardio. Anymore and your hurting your body. Second of all your testosterone level is higher during early day, which means its better to lift early day. Lifting at night is okay but if you do it before you go to sleep its going to keep you up. Most protein shakes are to be taken immediately after a work out.
Heres how the shakes/bars work; to get big you have to eat 6-8 smaller meals a day. Each meal has to have high protein intake to feed your muscles. The thing is your body can not take more that 50gms per sitting. One chicken breast is equal to about 40 grams. Instead of eating and you have a shake - a shake has an average of 35gms of protein which is a good amount.
Important note: If you intake more than your body can handle you be on the toilet right after that. Its a waste.
So yes protein shakes and bars a use full because they are your muscle food. You cannot get big with out the protein.
Good luck

I would say only lift weights every other day.
If you've been doing it for a while try using a split routine where you work each muscle group every three days. That way you're giving your body time to recover and not overworking.

Always try and make sure your workouts are progressive.

Make sure you have a good technique, which is often overlooked.

If you want to just build yourself up then you should be looking to higher weights, lower reps.

It's better to incorporate cardio if you can.

I wouldn't rely too much on drinks for gaining muscle there's not really that much evidence that any of them work that well. Protein shakes or bars can be useful if you are not able to eat within two hours after your workout but you really want to be consuming carbohydrates and protein together for maximum benefit. I would choose shakes or liquids over bars as you can digest and absorb them quicker.

For this answer we have to look at what protein shakes actually do.

Protein is a nutrient that aids in muscle building and recovery. I've provided a link which shows how much protein you need in your diet. So how much protein do you need for muscle recovery? The Institute of Sport says:

'Recreational endurance athletes - 0.8-1.0' (grams of protein per kg of body mass per day)... so if you're the average male (80kg/176lbs) you need 80g of protein per day, which isn't really much.

At max a weight lifter will take in 2g of protein per kg of body mass a day; anything more is known to weaken your bones because it gives you high calcium deposits in your urine.

On protein shakes... the Institute of Sport says:
'There is no need for the amount of protein provided by many
supplements and there is certainly no justification for the extra cost. '

So really, work out your diet... most people actually have too much protein in their diets. Even weight lifters don't have to have protein shakes. I suggest you read through the booklet I have linked to, it's quite useful and comes from a reliable source.

Protein helps build and repair muscle fiber. They will really help you. But I'd go with the drinks, not the bars. Don't spend too much. The stuff at Target or Wal-Mart is just as good as the fancy shmancy protein shake mixes.

It type of relies upon on what training you're doing and what you're searching to achieve. Are you attempting to reduce weight or construct muscle and so on. without delay after (and through) heavy strenuous workouts your body is a lot more desirable receptive to the approach of accepting protein and construction muscle fibres that are depleted for the duration of that exercising. Your body won't be able to keep protein a similar way it shops starch and fat and so on, the body takes what it needs from the protein you ingest and then some thing is dealt with as waste. So in case you do be sure to take a protein shake do not drink all of it in a unmarried go spread it out over the day. with reference to undesirable aspect consequences some peoples stomachs do not react too properly with some protein shakes (part of which will be because they take each of the days protein in a unmarried hit - as defined above - it only comes precise out back, waste of money!) yet in case you're trying a pair and take it precise you have to be ok. i personally take CNP professional-mass and it does the trick for me. I take it on a daily basis that I prepare and one on sunday to assist get over rugby on the saturday. 2 litres of milk is amazingly lots, is it skimmed? in the different case theres an excellent type of fat and ldl cholesterol in there. To summarise, in the journey that your nutrition are balanced and intense in protein, ie eggs and chicken breasts and so on then you actually shouldn't want protein shakes in the present day because you have to be placing out your training extremely slowly and steadily construction into it. in case you start up to take longer to get better check out bringing in some protein to assist that procedure. reliable success and do not ignore that your body desires restore time to be able to strengthen perfect now and again you could overtrain and fairly damage your progression. study as a lot about the learning you're doing and go into it keen to target and adjust to issues that paintings more desirable ideal for you.

first move is get your diet correct. second move is develop your routine. (sounds like you have one) third is buy supplements, thi order of importance: multivitamin, cal-mag, fish oil, possibly others. fourth i would say if you still have money, spend more on food... fresh fruits and vegetables can be an expensive way to eat. you can spend quite a bit in trying to increase the nutrition that you are getting in your food. when you feel like you have started to "find" your correct diet, look at your protein intake. if yo u feel it may be low, buy protein shake. remember to space your protein out throughout the day, as the body can only absorb so much at one time. at first i guess i would just have it before working out. carbs may help you work out harder but since you are going to bed after working out I wouldn't use much carb. step five - experiment with some cheap creatine monohydrate. I don't like it. makes me feel bad, plus it super-dehydrates you. For me, the king of all supplements is A-AKG. I like MRI's brand, which is called NO2. i have tried other brand's products that contained A-AKG but they were no good.

The power drinks are mainly for before workouts. A protien drink/shake would orivide you with additional protien. Protien is used in rebuilding muscles, so if you have additional protien in your body, it can rebuild the muscles faster and you get the most from your workuts

There is alot of good information on these sites. Drinking shakes and an unorganized routine could bring you nothing or make you fat. Do some research and get a plan and you'll be on your way in no time. Good Luck!
