You just answered your own question-- because they want food from the table, and you won't give it to them. Dogs are like kids when it comes to food. It doesn't matter what they have, they always want what you have.

Dogs are like babies, they want what they cannot have. Just ignore him and say no. I have 2 dogs, one is almost 4 years old and the other is 11 months. The 4 year old can see food on a plate at his level and will not dare touch it, the little one tries and I keep telling him no. If they know that something bad will happen to them they will stop trying to get the food in due time. I punish my little one by putting him outside, and she hates it, because she doesn't like to go outside without the big dog, that is the way I trained the big one he also did not like outside without a person. So try something like that or either just put him in another room is the outside temperature is too cold. I live in Florida so the temperature is always ok, except for rainy days. Good luck. Merry Christmas.

They need to know their place, and if they are confused about this they will take te liberty of begging at the table. Maybe you should try to tell the dog to lie down while you are eating or even make the dog leave the diningroom and not come back till you have finished. He must know that you are the leader of the pack and not question this. But always remember to be a caring and gentle leader!

Someone made the mistake of feeding him food from the table at one point and he loves people food. If your going to give him people food, just veggies and meats and never sweets or breads. Wait until you are all done eating dinner, just ignore him or put him in another room whie you eat.

Same reason children whine and cray at the store when they want something. Most the time we give in. Try making the dog stay in a different room while you are eatting, or feed him at the same time.

All you have to do is give a firm no...
Sounds to me like they have been given people food from the table, that is a no no cause it creates that situation.
Which they have been taught to do it!
I never feed my people from my bowl.

Because they are not trained properly and their owners taught them if they beg enough they will get what they want. I have seven dogs and not one will beg at my table.
