Is there anything wrong with washing vegetables in warm water as opposed to cold water? It seems like many places give directions that say "rinse in cold water." Does washing vegetables in warm water before storage hurt them?

I wash them before storage because they are for my rabbit and I store them in veggie bags that keep them fresh for weeks. Then I only have to clean them once instead of having to wash veggies every time I feed him.

I always wash them in warm water, not to warm if its salads because they wilt. if you want to wash them before you but them in the fridge just make sure there well dried or they will get mushy.

For vegetables like potatoes, corn, peas, and beans it has an immediate effect. If you wash them in cold water it keeps all of the molecular cells intact, but with wam, or hot they start to break down faster.

Corn- the sugar in corn turns to starch making it not so sweet.

Potato- warm or hot water starts the process of siezing the starch making the potato more firm, and unable to cook as weel when you are ready to use it. Always was and start the coking process in cold water.

Beans & Peas - breaks down the sugar making them less sweet and more succeptable to rotting sooner.

Carrots - softens/damages the outer cellular layer making it more succeptable to rotting. It also starts to break down what little sugar is in the vegetable.

Tomato- store stem-side up (it is the tenderest part) and not in the refridgerator.
Onions - Cool, dark, dry place along with your potatoes (not next to your dishwasher or under your sink)

There was a reason our ancestors harvested their vegetables and placed them in a root cellar. It was very cool and kept the vegetables through the long winters. That is more than we can say for the vegetables that we have now. Treat your vegetables correctly and they will be good to you.

Yes,washing vegetables in warm water would change the vegetables stability ,as the normal environmental temperature of vegetable changes with warm water ,it makes lot of difference ,which applies to its texture ,body ,shape and its inside
ingredients, once these properties are out of balance, the vegetable may rotten ,if not used immediately .so its always safe to wash in cold water

it doesn't really matter because it doesn't effect the taste but cold water is considered cleaner beause your warm water is stored in a large conaier and dear knows what in them there could even be a rat floating in it
