the original canon was chosen at the Council of Nicea. This was not some secret meeting, you can do a search on yahoo and get the actual minutes from the meeting. The reason they came together was to dispute some falsehoods about the nature of Christ and they just so happened to agree upon what books were true and inspired by God and what books were blasphemy.
Now, the "lost" books of the Bible are also not secret, you can buy a copy in English of the supposed "lost" books on amazon.com or anywhere else. These texts were not included in the Bible because at the time they could not prove who had written them (the gospel of Mary and gospel of Peter have PROVEN to have NOT been written by Mary or Peter for example), or they were pure blasphemy (they didn't fit with the rest of the Word of God and taught a false gospel).
Nowadays we have only a few copies of these supposed "lost" books. But every year, we find more and more copies of the original canon, and with them we can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the texts they had then are same ones we are using now. Hence the significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Of direction i advocate it. I used to be now not a Christian however after I learn the Bible I used to be beaten with what the Gospel is all approximately. Especially the New Testament It is simply unbelievably relocating. If you do not' wish to shop for the Bible, and when you have phone i incredibly advocate the app "Bible App" Not handiest it's loose but it surely comes with many many exclusive types of the Bible e.g. King James, NIV, New Living Translation. It even comes with exclusive languages as good! You too can create studying plans to fit your want. I'm presently operating on my Yearly Reading plan and am seventy six% performed and loved each little bit of it. But, for those who would not have a phone, you'll consistently goto a nearby church and ask for a bible and they'll pleased to oblige. God Bless

For what it's worth, the King James Bible originally DID contain 1 and 2 Maccabees and the other books of the apocrapha - they just don't get printed today because there's no market for it.
Peter and Thomas are influenced by Gnosticism and were not products of the Orthodox Christian community.

I know the date is write but the city?
Anyway - these LOST books were deemed not authentic - although they sounded somewhat - and they lost the vote
do you believe Jesus as a child made doves from clay and blew life into them - nope - misuse of the power

The gospel of Peter and Thomas may not be inspired by God. Indeed they may have been written with an intent to document the ministry of Jesus, but they may lack God's authorship. We call the books of the bible the Holy Scriptures, but if a man writes a book with good intent but without God's spirit-- how holy is that book?

As time went on when after the death of Christ and than his apostles, Churches were formed and man on itself chose the books most fitting. So that means the true teachings of early Christianity were forsaken in a way?

They all got rally drunk and all threw up on the books that they had. They were left no choice but to go with the ones that weren't messed up.

They were picked by uptight men who didn't think certain things were appropriate. Like Jesus making birds out of clay....
Look around you'll find them. Start with "The Lost Books of The Bible."
