That's the way I ate them when I was a kid too...
However, since pomegranate juice has an acidic, citrusy flavor, try substituting it in citrus marinades, either whole or in part, for a flavor change.
If you don't wish to bother with the fresh fruit for juice, you can always thank the French for their original grenadine, a thick red syrup made from pomegranates. Grenadine is non-alcoholic and is most often used in cocktails such as Tequila Sunrise and as a flavoring for the kiddie drinks known as Shirley Temple and Roy Rogers.
Avoid using aluminum and carbon steel knives or cooking vessels with pomegranates as they can turn the juice bitter.
Pomegranate Equivalents and Measures
One medium pomegranate should yield 1/2 to 3/4 cup of whole seed pips or 1/2 cup juice.

Heres the way I use to eat pomegranates =]
STEP 1: Cut off the flowery end of the pomegranate.
STEP 2: Score into sections.
STEP 3: Place in a bowl of water.
STEP 4: Allow fruit to soak for 5 minutes.
STEP 5: Break the sections of the fruit open in the bowl of water. STEP 6: Allow the seed kernels to separate from the rind and sink to the bottom.
STEP 7: Discard the rind and drain the kernels.
have fun! :-P

Get a bowl (big) of water. Slice the "outside" like an orange, trying not to cut in to the pom. Once all skin is removed, break it apart under water. The seeds are very juicy and stain. Keep breaking apart until all the seeds fall to the bottom of the bowl of water. Throw away the white part of the pom. You can strain the seeds too. You may have a little of the white left, but that's ok. I then put in a bowl and put in the fridge. They are great as a snack, or on salads, or in a Pom martini!

Puncture some sipping straw size holes in the top by the stem.
Place it in the microwave medium high for 1 minute. This may differ micro to micro but one minute will do it in most cases. This will break up the pulp and turn it into juice. The seeds will float
inside. Let cool. Throw in your favorite shot. Vodka. Gin, etc.
Stick in a straw and enjoy.

2 simple ways you can try...first, you can use a spoon to scoop it up but that's still a little messy since your breaking through the pulps. Second, get a good size bowl, cut the fruit in half, turn the half over, grab a sturdy...a little heavy spoon.. and tap...tap..tap...tap...like performing a Heimlich maneuver on a baby. Pulps should just fall off easy...

I love them. Saw a neat technique on tv for getting the kernels out of the flesh easier. They pulled the fruit apart, and plunged into sink of water and rubbed, the kernels float to the top of the water.
