I would call and ask a few vets just for a professional opinion. However, I've heard neuter before all the sexual behaviours begin, so before leg lifting and so on, which usually starts at 6 months..
I think by development they mean behavioural? If they do mean that, then nothing to worry about, as he will probably be more easier to handle and less aggressive with neutering. He will be less inclined to wander and fight with other dogs. Perhaps some people just want the tough aggressive dog, and think neutering will make them become soft (and therefore "influences the dogs development")... or think it will make them a better guard dog if they neuter them later.. I doubt the validity behind that, but people think anything these days...
I'm pretty sure at 6 months is fine, I know a female bouvier that is getting spayed at this age..

A majority of vets recommend to neuter dogs at 6 months. This will not affect the dog's normal development at all.
Good Luck!

There is evidence that they'll grow taller when they're neutered early. It's not a significant difference, but if hip dysplasia is a concern in your dog's line then delaying neutering is something to consider.
If your dog is female, definitely do it before her first heat. For males there's not great health benefits associated with neutering, but if your female is neutered before her first heat it reduces the chances of mammary cancer to 0%. It's much more beneficial to neuter females, and I think that would be better for her health, even though she may get a little bigger than if you waited.
Also, I hadn't heard you should wait until 2 years. After puberty should be fine. If you want to wait to neuter, make sure your dog is never outside unsupervised! If he smells a female in heat, he can leap a 6-foot fence. You could also get a vasectomy or tubal ligation performed. These will sterilize your pet without changing its hormones and affecting its growth.

a male dog can smell a female in heat a long ways off. and if you don't want him to run away looking for that female, do it as soon as you can, at least 6 to 7 months old. it does not bother the natural developement. now l heard that it could increase the developement.they get largeer or heavy or both. watch the diet and excisice will help keep it in shape

It used to be thought the dog's normal development was affected by neutering at 6 months, but that has been pretty much disproven. I'd say 6 months, before the onset of sexual maturity is the best time to neuter him.

My vet is very good, and recommends that the males be neutered as soon as he lifts his leg to pee, or at six months, whichever comes first..
All police K9 dogs and Guide dogs are neutered at 6 months..It won't affect his proper development..
At six months, he won't be as stressed about it..and you will avoid the proor habits developed during puberty

6 months....if you wait much longer after that, your dog may maintain certain habits like mounting and a lot of territorial marking that can be avoided by neutering him by 6 months.

Why do you want him neutered? Is he a problem? I have 2 boys and i don't consider neutering them, i have no reason to. I keep them in good behavior and let them know who is the boss. I do agility with the older one and he is quite happy! If you neuter you can possibly expect them to get fat and not so energetic as before. It is always a risk to put them under anesthesia.
