The easiest way is to start putting him outside from the beginning, however, if you don't ever plan on taking him outside, there are special puppy pads you can buy that have a smell that attracts them to urinate in a certain spot.

Put the pup where you want him to urinate every few hours (at 6 weeks) especially after he wakes, plays, and eats. The more you stick with this, the fewer mistakes he will make, and the faster he will learn. Buying a crate to keep him in can prevent him from peeing in the night, as they don't like to pee in places where they sleep, but you will be letting him out to pee a couple times in the night for awhile as at 6 weeks he wont be able to hold it for long. Also feed the dog at an early evening time for the evening feeding, so he can do his business before putting him to bed.... helps a lot.

Just keep at it and he will learn..

..just do not rub his face in his accidents and so on.. any mistake he makes is your fault for not watching close enough. A pup will often circle around smelling the ground before urination.. that would be a good indication to rush him over to the paper. Keep him with you or restricted to a smaller place in your house, so he can't mess somewhere when you are not watching..

good luck!

You don't need to train a shih tzu to paper. you should go straight to outside. I have two,and i have had them for five years now, and they are extremely stubborn as a breed. We paper trained them ,and it took us about a year to get them to stop going in the house. and then they rebell whenever they get mad or something upsets them. It would be easier to just start them off outside. You can do it, i had a 6 week old puppy, and i trained him from the get go. But all in all, you should just be patient, and it will take a while. like i said, shih tzu's are some of the most stubborn dogs there are. Good Luck

I agree very much with E and I want to go 2 college. Shih Tzu are very stubborn dog to house break. I have 8 of them so I know. Another thing I want to add to their comment is do not Scold the dong unless you catch them in the act. Dogs has short memories so they really don't know what they are being scolded for. I often wonder if they were stubborn or just to darn cute for their own good. It will take time but love your dog to death there is nothing better than a Shih Tzu love that they return to you.

i'm in contact as to the way you ended up with a 6-week-old puppy at your position of residing, till you actually have the mummy. domestic dogs that youthful might want to nevertheless be with their mom and littermates, and it truly is against the law to promote them in maximum factors. So, note that you've an somewhat youthful infant there. no one would let a 5-12 months-old human baby play freely with a newborn infant. Mature canine will usually tolerate all kinds of misbehavior from a youthful puppy -- someplace round 4 months or so, they lose that "puppy license." yet youthful canine usually haven't any endurance for a puppy. For a teen, the Lab is displaying good judgment -- he might want to no longer be fidgeting with the puppy. keep them separate till the infant is older. at the same time as the time comes, provide them constrained publicity, and supplies you your Lab miraculous treats each and every time the puppy comes close to.

Get a cage or large box, line it with newspaper, when he/she is out of the box and has accident put he/she on paper (outside of box or cage) immediately. Do not scold nature's accidents, use positive reinforcement when he/she does what you want where you want. Also, try and keep a small portion of soiled paper to place at location of relief for your pet, so they can find it easier next time they have to go.

Every time the dagsy has eaten, slept or played he definitely will need to go! And as he grows he will get better to keep it inside for a longer period, but until then you shoul take him outside atleast once an hour. It takes time and patience... and a lot a love!! ;-) Keep up the good work!

It is probably easier to train him to go outside. Go with him and reward him with food when he potties. Watch him like a hawk all the other times. Or crate train him when you can't watch him.

I would feed my dog, take it outside and say "potty outside", when it went I would give him a small piece of Roast. It sounds cruel, dogs won't pee or poop where they sleep. With one dog I had to keep it confined in a kennel and then it would whine to go potty and I'd take it out and she'd go, so she got use to going outside anyway. Never hit the pup with your hand if you catch it in the act, just clap loudly and startle it and take it outside quickly.
Shitzui are so adorable!!!

CONSISTANCY is the key. Don't expect too much from a six week old pup just yet but consistancy will prevail.
