Im buying my first car in a month, I know I can tranfer the title without having a license, but can I insure and register the car without having one? The car isnt going to be driven for a bit, but I know Ill have to insure it and register it a certain number of days after I buy it. Can I do all this without having my license if I dont plan on driving the car?

The CORRECT answer is that you need to have your license before you can insure the car in your name, and you also must have a license to register the vehicle or get plates. And you must have at least basic liability insurance before you can legally drive the car, no matter what state you live in.

To save yourself a lot money on insurance premiums, have Mom or Dad add your vehicle to their insurance, with you as a secondary driver. But you need to go ahead and get your license now to avoid complications later.

Hope this info helps.

Yes, you can purchase insurance without a license. You must have insurance before ANYONE may operate the vehicle -- not within a "certain number of days after I buy it."

Many vehicles are owned, registered, titled, and insured by people who do not have a license or drive themselves. If you don't have a license, you will be listed on the policy as a "prohibited" driver, but that would not prevent any legally licensed driver from driving the car with your permission.

Anyone who says that you need a license to insure a car is simply clueless. I've even run into insurance agents who will say this but there is simply no truth to that at all. I have two relatives and a good friend who are not licensed but own cars in their names. They have insurance though they are not allowed to drive their own cars as they are not licensed.

I don't know where the "yes's" got there information, but I've done DMV for dealerships and no you can't. What you can do is get someone with a license. Say your mom or dad, at least someone you trust. Get the insurance in there name until you get your license. Besides that, the insurance will be cheaper if they are older with a good record. You should pay for it, and than once you get your license. You should have everything change into your name. So you don't affect the record, if something happens while your driving.

You can own a car without a license, so you were able to get the title no problem.

However, you cannot drive a car without a license. When you insure the car, you must be legally allowed to drive the car. So, you must has a valid license.

Believe me I've traveled the east coast and each state is different. From Maine to Florida. Ugh! Wished every state was the same. It would cut the confusion down.
You should be able to check with your DMV by calling them on the phone.
Good Luck.
