How to auto-cut my scanned images?

When my friend's new Epson scanner scans 4 pictures, it automatically cuts/loads 4 jpgs onscreen.

How can i do that w/ my Canon scanner?
Is the cutting software driven? What can i use?

you probably cant- try this, this is what i do-

use photoshop adobe version 5.0
for free~
