I want to get contact lenses, but my mom won't let me get any. She won't tell me why either. Are there any risks?

There is an increased risk of eye infections because you have to touch your eye and put a foreign object in it. Also your cornea relies on the air around it for it's supply of oxygen as it has no blood vessels. Therefore if you wear lenses constantly your eyes can suffer oxygen deprivation. They can also be expensive and a bit of a mission to get in and out. It took me about 20 years to pluck up the courage to get contacts but I'm glad I did in the end. Not that I wear them all the time.
Have you spoken to your mum about what her concerns actually are? Perhaps she's just very squemish about things going in eyes and the very thought of it grosses her out which would explain why she won't tell you.
It may be that you just have to accept your mum's decision for the time being but don't worry, one day the decision will be yours then you can wear them to your hearts content.

It is unfortunate she won't say why, but it is probably because of the cost.
The risks depend on the type, cleaning protocols and such but she just may not be able to afford it.

you can get eye infections and abrasions and such if you do not take care of them.
