Many don't believe because it takes courage to come out from among them, and they are afraid of what others might think. Humans were labeled as the faithless generation for good reason, and one can't love two masters.

Because there is no adequate evidence of any "miracle" ever actually having been performed. This is partly due to the rise of science: a miracle presupposes a supernatural event, but science absolutely prohibits such. It is a fundamental proposition of science that all phenomena are explainiable within the physical laws of the universe, and hence there cannot be any such thing as a miracle -- which would be an exception to the laws. If an event cannot be explained according to the known laws, the reason must be that not all the laws are known, as opposed to supposing that a deity has wreaked an exception to the laws.

If God is so powerful why can't he show up? What seems to be the problem? Remember that biblical people say that God came down all the time. But put that in context. 99% of biblical people were illiterate, they thought that the earth was flat and if you got too close to the edge you fell off. Every time they witnessed something that they couldn't comprehend, they called it God. If you could go back to biblical times with a flash light and turned it on, every one thought that you were God because you could make the sun come from your hands. Our God concept came from ancient people who didn't have a clue as to what was going on. If what happened to them happened today we now have knowledge and understanding of things that they witnessed and called God. Have you ever noticed that as mankind became more and more knowledgeable as to what was going on, God showed up less and less to the point where he doesn't show up at all? Now when He is needed the most. Look at how much World turmoil there is because religions can't agree on God, and you don't show up. Religion doesn't want people to think, just believe what they tell you and give them money.

Here's the rub. The creator-all knowing-all seeing-all powerful-all etc seems to have botch it up. He created imperfections. Too many glitches in his system. He even failed in his prime objective. Jehovah seems to have an insatiable appetite for worship. He is Mean very mean. You don't love me I kill you attitude is prevalent. He performs ,through third parties, miracles to prove his existence. But he never puts in a personal appearance which would definitely put an end to all this brouhaha.
If there is a "god" then he would be the one who created the big bang and now sits back and enjoys the universe evolving expanding and doing its thing

It's a book, dude, the real miracle is that anybody does believe when god doesn't do anything--none of us saw miracles that supposedly happened centuries ago, we might as well believe in star wars and jedis then, because they made miracles happen long ago in a galaxy far away

If there were a god, and he truly was omniscient then I'm sure he'd realise that the reason people don't believe is because his 'miracles' happened thousands of years ago and can't be proved. If god exists and wants us to know that he does, it should be very simple for him to convince us. Strange then that more than a billion people aren't convinced.

I'm not saying I believe or don't believe. That's noone's business but my own. However, here is an outline upon why I believe that many question the Christian precepts.
I think part of the problem is supporting sources. Christians base a lot of arguments off of one singular source, the Bible, which requires faith to sustain as credible. As humans, we tend to to relate the credibility of an argument based on the credibility of the sources.
Many common arguments, such as scientific arguments, use multiple sources that are based predominantly on fact, in order to support theories. The Christian method of supporting an argument involves not many sources, but one, the Bible. Even Christians themselves state that in the end, it comes down to faith, not fact, to believe.
Based on facts alone, the Bible is conflicting in many points, and is inconsistent as to it's storytelling. Many stories in the Bible require LARGE leaps to believe, especially since in a modern society, we see no behavior consistent with the telling of the stories.

Well, I think miracles are smoke and mirrors...the most important thing is the message. If the message is rooted in truth, than a person has no choice to believe. Miracles do not justify obedience...a person has to come to the truth when that person is ready to accept the truth.

God vs. Science
God is sitting in Heaven when a scientist says to Him, "Lord, we don't need You anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing. In other words, we can now do what you did in the beginning."
"Oh, is that so? Tell me," replies God.
"Well," says the scientist, "We can take dirt and form it into the Likeness of You and breathe life into it, thus creating man."
"Well, that's interesting. Show me."
So the scientist bends down to the Earth and starts to mold the soil.
"Oh no, no, no," interrupts God. "Get your own dirt!"

Miracles defy convention. Yet, we can ostensibly move mountains with our mind if and when, we learn to shatter the monolithic icons of the spatio-temporal status quo. Yet we appear to be locked into our obligatory roles, unable to break free of the sticky taffy of our mental inertia, and such is our woes. Then we learn to stop struggling and live in the now. Resonate with Reality.
